Powerful article in KOSOVO 2.0 by Furtuna Sheremeti on the recent femicide in Kosovo. Her analysis and recommendations apply beyond #Kosovo.

A pleasure to host @AgApolloni, #Kosovo Albanian Professor of Literature & writer, at the University of Westminster this week. He gave a fascinating lecture on "The Challenges of Albanian Literature: Identity and Obscurity". Great to see so many from the Albanian diaspora there.

Albanian police resorted to violence, tear gas, and water bots, to stop a student protest today. Albanians have been protesting peacefully for months, in the Flamingo Revolution. Students demanded govt resignation and at first threw eggs and rocks at the education ministry.

Unrest in #Kosovo after the Special Courts ruling was predicted by many including myself. In 2018 I wrote "if the general public does not accept the legitimacy of the KSC, then the proceedings could well inflame widespread societal anger and ignite unrest" hybridjustice.com/aidan-hehi…
I’m really delighted to have arranged for the celebrated

We know the sound of police boots in Srebrenica.
We heard them before. We know what comes after the boots, the uniforms, the orders and the paperwork. So when police boots approach the Memorial Center today, we do not hear an ordinary police operation.
We hear an old language. And we remember exactly where that language once led.
"Ovaj brutalni, sinhronizirani val napada – koji u isto vrijeme sprovode policija, najviši funkcioneri RS-a i režimska udruženja – jasno dokazuje da je Memorijalni centar Srebrenica pod stalnim udarom politike koja ne prestaje sa negiranjem historijskih činjenica i progonom onih koji čuvaju istinu od zaborava."

Dear friends,
Unfortunately, the Srebrenica Memorial Center continues to be targeted by the corrupt Bosnian Serb police and judiciary.
I know for a fact that a plan is being prepared to raid the Memorial Center. I am not privy to the operational details, but I know the plan exists. I understand that it would involve special police units and Bosnian Serb TV cameras.
The operation appears to have two objectives: first, to discredit and intimidate the Memorial Center; and second, to put me in prison and subject me to years of politically motivated proceedings.
The only way we can fight back is by bringing this into the open. Transparency is our only protection - and, ultimately, our only means of survival in such an adversarial environment.
Please share this widely.
This was no low-stakes gesture:
Ireland risked expulsion from UEFA and FIFA for standing with Kosovo in its darkest hour.

DID YOU KNOW:
In 1999, Ireland refused Yugoslavia’s team entry to Dublin, preventing their match in protest against the Serbian regime’s crimes in Kosovo.
We will never forget your solidarity. Much love & respect to the Irish people — you’ll always be welcome in Kosovo! ❤️🇮🇪🇽🇰
My latest article on the Special Court judgements.
"People’s anger should be directed... towards those “internationals” who bullied Kosovo into creating the court and the domestic elite that bowed to their demands."

OPINION by Aidan Hehir I The harsh sentences handed down to former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders are the result of a Western attempt to appease Serbia by setting up a war crimes court that prosecuted Kosovo Albanians, not Serbs.

New article of mine;
'Kosovo Verdict Reflects West’s Strategic Priorities, Not Pursuit of Justice'
Law is inherently political & always influenced by interests and power...Nowhere is this more obvious than in the case of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.

I'm quoted here about the impact of the Special Court ruling on #Kosovo
“The sensitivities involved in this have been grossly underestimated by the internationals who created this court...This could have a really deep impact on Kosovo society.”

A black day for #Kosovo.
This court was a political charade from the start.
Those internationals who bullied Kosovo into creating it should be ashamed...
