👏 👊 👏 I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS Brooklyn man installs his own speed bumps on street to keep local kids safe nydailynews.com/2026/10/24/b…
Perhaps my first time agreeing with @RonDeSantis but here we are! He ain’t wrong about this, and if serious regs aren’t the first order of business for a Dem Congress, I don’t know what is.
Imagine a rogue AI agent liquidating your bank account and investment portfolio.
If you are the only victim, I suppose you could get made whole by the AI company responsible.
If rogue agents liquidate hundreds of billions across millions of accounts, the AI company would go bankrupt and you wouldn’t get made whole.
Imposing criminal liability on AI executives might help mitigate it at the front end, but once the crime is complete and you lose everything criminal responsibility will be necessary but completely insufficient.
You can fill a million potholes, you can build a bunch of bike lanes, you can claw back a few dollars from the delivery companies for each of the bike delivery guys (and a mayor should do all of these things!) - but if parents in NY are left feeling like the subway their kids use every day isn't safe, and the public school application system is more a game of trickery than an citywide effort to actually get your kid a good education - people will continue to leave NYC in droves. And who can blame them? nytimes.com/2026/10/19/opini…
To be clear, destroying your own transit system does not improve service, and does not prevent NYC cameras from capturing your vandalism. And it most *definitely* does not “free Palestine”
It mostly just allows thugs easier access to the emergency gates to threaten old ladies and people with strollers into giving them cash so they can access the subway. Great job.
Anonymous submission:
Last week, a group of activists disabled the OMNY readers at the BQ Church Avenue station in Brooklyn with an automatic center punch and drill. They opened the gate so people can ride for free, and painted the cameras to protect themselves and fellow riders from surveillance.
This was deliberate act of protest against unaffordable transit, hyper-surveillance in predominantly Black and brown neighborhoods, and the MTA's collaboration with the military industrial complex.
YOU ARE BEING WATCHED. OMNY records when and where you travel, your photograph, name, DOB, billing address, and other personal details. This invasive tech creates a profile to track your life and travel patterns. OMNY’s privacy policy places no limits on the data it collects about you.
EVERY TAP FUNDS A WAR PROFITEER. OMNY is operated by Cubic, a military equipment company making combat simulators. They sell the F-35 fighter jet training system to imperialist zionist entities like israel. The F-35 is a key weapon in israel's genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and all of the US's imperialist wars, responsible for massacring millions of people.
FIGHT BACK. The MTA and Cubic don't deserve your hard earned cash. Take action, smash a reader, jump the turnstile, hold the gate for others. If you must pay, use cash for OMNY cards, and tap yourself and fellow riders in. This makes you all less traceable. Cover your face and identifying features. Always check for police before evading the fare. Remember, contracted security guards have no authority to stop or detain passengers.
RIDE FREE, FUCK THE NYPD, AND FREE PALESTINE!

I read this piece every year on 9/11 and you should too. @nancygibbs did incredible work here and the headline never leaves me.
Twenty five years is long enough that a sizable part of the population isn’t remembering. They’re imagining. If you want to understand what the day felt like, read @nancygibbs piece. It’s beautiful, harrowing, and an amazing feat of deadline writing. time.com/3313113/if-you-want…

“Staffers in government at every level use Signal routinely” does not make it acceptable, it just means, if true, that a huge number of people in government have just decided the rules don’t apply to them. Not a great look.
Replying to @taliaotg
that’s fair, but not enough to make it such a big deal imo. Staffers in government at every level use Signal routinely, not necessarily to obscure what should be public information but to avoid the very stories around tactics this story has now generated
Everyone involved in this should be absolutely mortified. Yikes.

In Nov. New York voters will decide five charter proposals on government efficiency. But much of what ails NYC needs no referendum: the mayor could start fixing it tomorrow. @VitalCityNYC assembled 13 fixes that go beyond the charter. 🧵

Paul Begala’s still got it 👇
Paul Begala to Jessica Tarlov: "The DSA has their own party, and here's what they've done for America: They elected George Bush by supporting Ralph Nader in 2000. They elected Donald Trump by supporting Jill Stein in 2016. They helped elect Donald Trump in 2024 by doing this 'uncommitted nonsense.' So their contribution to America has been the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war, the financial crisis, and the Trump presidency. I've had just about enough help from the kook left. Not only do they siphon off votes, but they taint and poison the brand." overcast.fm/+ABLWa14lb2c

I have no doubt there will be many well-written social media posts condemning the antisemitic stabbings on the Upper West Side today, and I’m sure many people’s thoughts and prayers will be with the victims and their families.
But these statements ring hollow when so many in the city normalize antisemitism, including simply by associating American Jews with the actions of the Israeli government.
Enough is enough.
