Mitch McConnell has just delivered a warning Trump cannot afford to ignore.
In The Wall Street Journal, the veteran Republican senator warned that Trumpβs continued submission to Putin could jeopardise his entire legislative agenda.
McConnell calls Trumpβs Russia policy strategically naive and morally bankrupt. More importantly, he signals that Republican senators may withhold their support unless Trump changes course.
This is no longer merely about Ukraine. It is about whether Republicans will allow an American president to keep rewarding a Russian dictator while undermining Americaβs allies.

Badass Norwegian parliament member Peter FrΓΈlich broke his country's export laws to smuggle thermal-imaging drones into Ukraine after Norwegian customs blocked the shipment in 2023.
When government bureaucracy stood between Ukrainian soldiers and urgently needed equipment, FrΓΈlich decided to take matters into his own hands.
The drones were delivered, the Norwegian government subsequently changed the regulations, and FrΓΈlich says he has no regrets.

I work in the military and human rights fields, documenting and sharing the stories of people who have suffered because of Russian aggression.
Russia wants to silence Ukrainian voices because our testimonies challenge its attempts to rewrite history and spread false narratives.
Yes, Ukraine has internal problems. Yes, we disagree with our political leadership on many issues. That is how democracy works: we have the right to criticise our government, demand accountability and insist that the law applies to everyone.
But we also face an immediate threat: the Russian Federation.
Our cities are being bombarded. Our people are being killed, abducted and tortured. Our defenders are holding the front line.
We cannot allow political arguments and propaganda to distract the world from Russiaβs ongoing aggression.
And now we must also question decisions being made in Washington that affect Ukraineβs security, while continuing to demand transparency and accountability from our international partners.
