Student, poet and generally obsessed with language in a somewhat unhealthy manner - wordy, too 😁

The 10 rules simplified. 1Know your argument and stick to it. 2Give each paragraph one main point. 3Put clarity first (even if you repeat yourself). 4Keep sentences short and simple. 5Write from a fixed point in time, using tenses to show what came before or after. 6Use the subjunctive if need be. 7To illustrate a point, state it, then give examples; to prove a point, give the evidence, then state it. 8Picture your metaphors and don't mix them. 9Read your sentences aloud and hear how they sound. 10Cut any passage written just to impress.
Had forgotten about Hugh Trevor-Roper's Ten Commandments for English style. From the 2nd Commandment flows all.

youtu.be/fQC2mf9_oqk?is=Gi1k… My reading of T.S Eliot's Prufrock! The more I read this poem, the more I am convinced of its brilliance: it's energetic, experimental, and so strange. I hope you will enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed recording it Hope I did it some justice ☺️

Has it really been three years since October 7th 2023? I'd just arrived in Jerusalem for my studies a month before that. It was one of the most surreal days I've ever experienced - like something out of a terrifying book that one is glad to put down when one's finished

Translating poetry is such a fantastic exercise, it's never going to do justice to original brilliance, but so effective in sharpening your own skill in writing ☺️ this was one fun morning

My students totally randomly sought me out yesterday during their lunch and spent half of it in my classroom taking turns quoting T. S. Eliot at me. I consider this a sign of supreme success.
