These are our basic problems: gerontocratic leadership; bloated government; pseudo-democracy controlled by a wealthy caste; lack of trust in institutions; low birth rates; high deficit/national debt; inefficient health care; foreign policy designed to start useless wars.

IRAN WAR ANALYSIS: With the Quadrilateral summit taking place today between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, many people are hoping that this will bear fruit towards a potential peace deal between the United States and Iran... It ain't happening. First and foremost, the ONLY way that Iran would possibly consider letting President Trump off the hook prior to the US Midterm elections is if President Trump made a concession that was TRULY irreversible for Iran. This is because Tehran is well aware, through repeated American reversals and strikes in the midst of negotiations, that there is an extreme likelihood that after the midterms... Trump would just go back to war anyways. As a result of this, the ONLY way that I could see the Iranians making any kind of deal with the United States to avoid a return to all-out war and escalation is IF the United States coughed up an ENORMOUS amount of cash and gold to Iran, to be delivered PHYSICALLY into the Iranian Central Bank. Irreversible. No getting it back. ... I don't find that terribly likely. But without an irreversible and SIGNIFICANT concession from the US, Iran would be foolish to take Trump on trust that he will stick to his word on any deal. See: MOU. But beyond this, there is also the Israeli perspective that needs to be addressed. Listen to the rhetoric coming from Bibi Netanyahu about how he, and to be honest, many Israelis view this war. It's existential. It's the last chance Israel will ever have to secure the Greater Israel Project, their regional hegemony, to even HOPE to avoid a complete and total collapse of their relationship with the United States in the decades to come. Israel has no INTENTION of allowing the United States and Iran to make a deal. We saw this during the Memorandum of Understanding when the Israeli Lobby, the Iran Hawks, and the Neocons FLOCKED to Fox News and Newsmax to rip Trump to SHREDS about signing the MOU. The MOU fell apart because, despite my best efforts and op-ed in The Hill advocating for Trump to NOT do it, the United States revoked the Iranian oil sanctions waiver and imposed an escrow account under the amended General License X-1. How can I prove that it was the Israeli Lobby that advocated for this and pressured Trump behind the scenes? Because Mark Dubowitz, the CEO of the Israeli-First think tank The Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and Miad Maleki, a Senior Advisor for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, published an op-ed in The New York Post entitled, "Iran deal tosses a tremendous cash lifeline to terrorist regime". In this piece, Dubowitz and Maleki say that (falsely) Iran will get an ENORMOUS windfall from these oil sanction waivers, and therefore, we must attach escrow mechanism that completely destroy any and all value they provide to Iran. I published a rebuttal in The Hill entitled, "The backlash to Iranian oil sanctions relief misses the point" where I argued (correctly) that Maleki and Dubowitz are idiots, and revoking or attaching non-starter escrow account mechanisms will destroy the MOU. I was right. Again. Israel has no INTENTION of letting the United States reach a deal with Iran. They played Trump like a FIDDLE to get the US into this war of choice, and they are going to fight like HELL to keep America trapped in another Middle Eastern forever war. Regardless of the costs. While I would love to believe that this Quadrilateral Summit between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey will yield a framework in which the United States and Iran can agree to terms that will avoid catastrophic and reckless destruction of the global economy... Not likely.

The United States needs to realize that it's not that Iran doesn't UNDERSTAND what the United States is threatening... They understand it well. They're here for it. Saying it a thousand different ways just makes the Trump Administration look foolish. Shit or get off the pot.

I’m French. I want to talk to Americans who are about to vote Democrat. Not to insult you. To warn you. I come from your future. In France we did everything your progressive politicians promise. Free healthcare, free college, generous welfare, strong unions, heavy regulation, high taxes on the rich, a state that takes care of everything. Public spending close to 57% of GDP, one of the highest on the planet. On paper, it’s the dream. Here’s what it looks like from the inside. France hasn’t passed a balanced budget since 1974. Our debt is above 3,300 billion euros. Interest on that debt is becoming one of the biggest items in the national budget. Our hospitals are collapsing despite record funding. Our schools rank lower every year. Young people with degrees can’t afford an apartment in the city they were born in. Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco. And the rich you wanted to tax? They left too, and took the jobs with them. The promise was protection. The result is stagnation. The worst part is that nobody in France voted for decline. Every single step sounded generous, compassionate, reasonable. One more program. One more regulation. One more tax to fund it. Each step alone makes sense. Fifty years of them, and you wake up in a country that can no longer build a nuclear plant on time or keep its streets safe. I love America because it’s the one place on earth where people still believe they can build something from nothing. I came to Silicon Valley as a self-taught kid and it changed my life. That spirit is the most precious thing your country has. Before you vote, ask yourself one question: is the program you’re voting for making America more like America, or more like France? Trust me. You don’t want to be France.
On a ri.

Trump is correct: killing the ayatollah & most of the moderates was a mistake. The Israelis assured Trump that doing so would annihilate the regime. Instead, it cleared the way for IRGC hardliners to take control and galvanized the Iranian people against America. The Israelis sold Trump a lie to ensure we’d end up ensnared in a conflict that serves their interests, despite bringing nothing but harm to the American people. Trump can break out of this trap by walking away now. No more escalation, or waiting for a deal that the Iranians can’t give him. Just walk now.

An interesting fact is that Venezuela’s oil export figures are inflated by roughly 12%. This occurs because headline numbers continue to include imported diluents, mainly naphtha and light crude. These diluents are mixed with Venezuela’s extra-heavy oil before it can be transported and exported. Since they are included in export volumes, they increase the headline number without representing additional oil produced in Venezuela. Once you remove them, Venezuela’s estimated domestic production has been closer to 950,000 barrels per day.
I like how Venezuela reported 1.200 million barrels per day in July and 1.201 bpd in August to make sure that official line kept going up. I'm sure the auditors of the Venezuelan budget that the US promised will get around to verifying that at any moment now.

Trump is so blinded by his devotion to Israel that I wonder whether he even realizes what great harm his war on Iran and other actions for Israel have caused. His rallies now have little meaning. He needs to read the room--most Americans want to end the US special relationship with Israel.

🇾🇪🇸🇦 Nobody will bail Saudi Arabia out of Yemen, and the cheapest way to reopen Bab el-Mandeb is the one Riyadh won't try: cut a deal with the Houthis Washington said no twice. The Mecca pact turned out to have a clause for pre-existing wars. Tomorrow MBS goes to Cairo, and one report has him asking Israel through CENTCOM. Joe Kent spent 2010 in Yemen and has a cheaper idea. Nobody has ever conquered the northern tribes, not Egypt, which lost its own Vietnam there, and not the United States, which tried last year and quit. The Houthis aren't al-Qaeda, they don't board planes to attack anyone, and they aren't Iran's puppets so much as its partners. What they want is the land they've always held. Saleh ran Yemen for decades by dancing on the heads of snakes, cutting deals with every tribe. Kent's advice to Riyadh is to stop thinking like Westerners and go back to that: "That probably has a price. Let's just pay it." @joekent16jan19

Wow! A US serviceperson based in the region tells me that "many members don’t understand the strategic objective of the operation [against Iran] at this point. This is conveyed through sarcastic jokes and open-ended questions on the purpose of daily missions." It gets even more interesting as he goes on to assess the degree of support and opposition for the war among servicemen and women in the field: "If I had to assign numbers, I would say ~2% fully support ~38% indifferent ~30% opposed ~30% very opposed" This is, of course, not a scientific poll, but the assessment of a service member fighting this war. Still, assessing that ONLY ~2% fully support the war and that ~60% oppose it is stunning. This is what happens when politicians initiate unjust wars of choice.

The Houthis’ rapid advance is just the beginning of the blowback effects we are now going to face as a result of our counterproductive policies in the Middle East & because of this senseless war in Iran. The Houthi’s ability to capture key terrain and strategic ports along the Red Sea coast speaks to not just their military capabilities but also to their ability to gain support from tribes far from the traditional Houthi strongholds in northern Yemen. This is very significant—these tribes are predominantly Sunni, while the Houthis are Zaydi Shias. Yemen is a tribal region—deals among rivals are frequently cut before or during battles, and even then those alliances can be murky. Now, however, the Houthis are fighting alongside the IRGC as a member of the axis of resistance against the Saudis, the U.S., and Israel. This has given them far more popular support than a standard tribal deal or a military victory ever could—not because Yemenis support or particularly care about the Iranians, but because especially during times of conflict, we go tribal. It’s human nature. The Yemenis have witnessed what the U.S.-backed Saudis have done to their people and what the U.S. backed Israelis have done to the people of Gaza, & see how the Iranians are fighting back after the U.S. & Israel attacked them. Now, they’re uniting against their common enemy to fight back. The U.S.’s war in Iran & simultaneous backing of the Saudis’ war in Yemen, along with our government’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, have given the Iranian Islamic revolution a massive boost that has reached far beyond Iran. As our war against Iran drags on we will see more of this, especially in Iraq, Lebanon & potentially Bahrain. Our own policies and interventions abroad are encouraging radicalization, which will in turn inspire blowback terrorism here in the U.S. This is a destructive self-licking ice cream cone and it’s going to get more people killed. President Trump and his advisors know better, and know that ending our foreign entanglements now is in the best interest of the American people. The question is whether they have the moral courage to do it.

This article is clearly a defensive maneuver by White House advisors & Republicans who either encouraged POTUS to launch this war or who lacked the courage to tell him that this war would be a disaster. Because the war is going so poorly, the hawks in the White House are pinning it all on Trump, hoping to survive the inevitable fallout with their sights already set on whatever role comes next. Of course the buck stops with POTUS, but key voices who were against the war were boxed out & our own intelligence community’s warnings were ignored. Advisors to any President have a serious responsibility, yet we have a serious accountability problem in DC being perpetuated by people in positions of influence who are motivated by self-preservation and an unwillingness to speak uncomfortable truths. Without accountability we will continue to fail the American people.
Top White House officials and elected Republicans tell us the same thing in private: They no longer even try to persuade President Trump to do or not do something. •"Why bother?" a longtime adviser and admirer told us. axios.com/2026/09/09/trump-m…
