The one thing that will drive me nuts now this is over is some will pretend the Sabres did not have a better offer (multiple times) at the draft and into the start of free agency.
FWIW I think other teams did too. Jets liked Mercer and made their decision.

Sabres 4 wins this season they scored:
4-3-5-4-5
All one goal games except the 5-3 win vs Florida where the starter was pulled.
6 L’s they scored:
3-0-1-3-3-1
Goals required to win those games:
7-5-5-4-4-4
Sure gotta be more consistent scoring but there are bigger issues

Chevy told Dreger to report this to put some pressure on Buffalo and Utah to up their offers before lawyers and the NHLPA have to get involved in this mess
Darren Dreger on TSN690 about Hellebuyck: I can tell you the information I have, which I mean I know it's rock solid as of yesterday. The only offer that Winnipeg, I wouldn't even say is considered, but seems to be consistent, is likely coming out of Carolina. - 10/21 #GoJetsGo #CarolinaCulture #NHL

You’re at the bottom of the whole league at a thing.
Someone to make you better at that thing is available, and you’re a team where usually that guy would say no hell no, but he WILL SAY YES.
What to do?

I mean how can you not RT a Josh Allen shovel pass montage put to the music of Sugar Ray
I remember thinking I dreamed this. Amazing pull. Peter Skudra was a Sabre goalie for 5 seconds.
From October 20, 2000, #Sabres vs. #Ducks, Lindy Ruff briefly switches goalies late in overtime to give his team a chance to catch their breath. #LetsGoBuffalo
Hell ya, missing the start of the Bills game because I’m out of market. Bucs/Steelers in OT. Can’t watch on Sunday Ticket because it’s a game shown locally in Nashville.
Year after year the NFL allows this to happen and does nothing. $400 a year.
I was in a motel room in Niagara Falls watching this. Because of no power at our home in Amherst due to the October Surprise Storm. Will never forget that night and the next 10 days.
20 years ago today (October 13, 2006), Aleš Kotalík beats Dominik Hasek in the shootout and the #Sabres defeat the #RedWings. #LetsGoBuffalo
I don’t think another fanbase wears as much of their team’s gear as Bills fans. Sabres go for that as well.
In terms of snowfall, there were worse storms living in WNY, but the October Surprise Storm is still the craziest and most surreal snowstorm I’ve ever experienced in Buffalo.
Does anyone remember the October 12-13, 2006 Lake Effect Snow event? If not, here is a recap of what unfolded. Many meteorologists were calling for a lake effect rain event, very few if any had any forecast of snow forecasted and rightfully so. A lake effect snow event across the lower elevations of WNY was unheard of for this early in the season. Temperatures at 850 MB (5000 ft) came in 2 degrees lower than the modeled showed. This was enough to cause the lake effect rain to turn to lake effect snow and the rest is history!
📅 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12 — THE STORM BEGINS
🌡️ Lake-effect rain developed as cold air moved over Lake Erie, which was still around 62°F.
❄️ Around 3 PM, rain changed to heavy, wet snow across Buffalo and surrounding communities.
🌨️ Snowfall intensified throughout the afternoon and evening as lake-effect bands strengthened.
🌳 By 8–9 PM, trees and branches were snapping under the weight of just 2–3 inches of heavy, wet snow. Trees still covered in autumn leaves made the damage significantly worse!
⚡ Widespread power outages began developing as the storm intensified.
⛈️ Intense lake-effect snow continued overnight, accompanied by frequent thunder and lightning!
📅 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13 — THE SNOWFALL INTENSIFIES
🌨️ After midnight, the heaviest snow band shifted south toward the Southtowns before lifting back toward Buffalo and the eastern suburbs.
❄️ During the early morning hours, another burst of intense snow dumped a foot or more in some locations in just FOUR HOURS!
📍 The intense snow band then shifted north across the Northtowns and into Niagara County.
📏 FINAL SNOWFALL TOTALS
📍 Buffalo Niagara International Airport: 22.6 inches
📍 Depew and Alden: Up to 24 inches
❄️ Some areas received nearly 2 FEET OF SNOW IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS!
⚠️ THE AFTERMATH
🔌 More than 400,000 customers lost power.
🌳 Roads were blocked by fallen trees and power lines, leaving motorists stranded.
🏫 Schools and businesses faced widespread closures.
🌲 Massive tree damage devastated neighborhoods, parks and roadways.
🌡️ Most of the snow melted within 48–60 hours, but cleanup and power restoration continued for days.

There's been worse storms in my lifetime but I think this was one was definitely the wildest.
Next week marks 20 years since the October Surprise storm, when 20 inches of wet, heavy snow fell across Western New York on Oct. 12 and 13, 2006.
Thousands of people lost power, many not getting it back for several days. Many schools closed for at least a week. wivb.com/weather-news/next-w…
