Thanks to a combo of the left being bad at messaging and the average person being brainwashed to think socialism = no one has money, I think many people hear "we need more socialist policies" and think it means burning banks instead of stuff like price caps on bread and medicine.

A far left independent candidate nearly won the Democratic nomination in 2016 and the party's response since then has been to move further right every four years.
The trope of Republicans are evil and Democrats are incompetent has never been more true.
