Went for a lunchtime walk today to see one of my favourite pieces of ugly Edinburgh being torn down. End of an era. I used to imagine this overgrown monstrosity was a secret government listening base.
Went to @scotdesignex earlier to look for Christmas presents and ended up buying some gorgeous art for ourselves. By Lianna Moran and Paper Picture. Very excited to have these on our walls.
Or, you know, this one, which I had up on my 14-year-old bedroom wall for a full year before I ever saw the film.
And, hey, since I sometimes add posters, how could I not include this one? Still magical to this day.
Starting December off right with the sublime Tokyo Godfathers. Definitely up there in my top five Christmas movies.
Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eyes (Antonio Margheriti, 1973) is an enjoyably mad giallo about a vampire curse at a Scottish castle. A bit slower than you might like, but has some great visuals. Available on YouTube. My review: wp.me/pcE3A2-wY youtube.com/watch?v=5k8l8Mf3…
The Maze (William Cameron Menzies, 1953) is a ropey but fun mystery about a US playboy called back to his ancestral Scottish home. What's the secret at the heart of The Maze? You'll never guess. Available on YouTube. My review: wp.me/pcE3A2-nz youtube.com/watch?v=PR1rGtM1…
Next is The Ballad of Tam Lin (Roddy McDowall, 1970), an update of the classic Borders fairy story. Here, Tam is a young hippie in thrall to Ava Gardner's cult of personality. Wonderful and trippy. Available on YouTube. My review: wp.me/pcE3A2-kP youtube.com/watch?v=dhb8I7mG…
