ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURERS CONGRATULATES MR. IQBAL PATEL AND MR. YAOCHI HUANG ON RECEIVEING NATIONAL HONOURS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ZAMBIA’S MANUFACTURING SECTOR
The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) wishes to congratulate Mr. Iqbal Patel of Trade Kings Group and Mr. Yaochi Huang of Wonderful Group on being awarded the Order of the Eagle of Zambia - Third Division by His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema, during the Independence Day Investiture Ceremony held on 24 October 2026.
ZAM also commends His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema, for recognising and honouring leaders from the manufacturing sector, acknowledging the vital role that manufacturers and private sector investors play in Zambia’s economic development. Such recognition affirms the importance of enterprise, investment and local production in creating jobs, building domestic productive capacity and advancing the country’s development aspirations. It also sends an encouraging message to the wider manufacturing community that its contribution to national progress is valued.
Manufacturing must be at the heart of Zambia’s Grow Zambia agenda, driven by visionary leaders who invest in local production, create jobs, strengthen domestic value chains and build businesses capable of competing in regional and international markets. The achievements of Mr. Patel and Mr. Huang demonstrate what is possible when entrepreneurial vision is matched with sustained investment, ambition and confidence in Zambia’s potential.
Mr. Iqbal Patel has played a pivotal role in building Trade Kings Group into one of the region’s leading fast-moving consumer goods manufacturing groups. His leadership demonstrates the capacity of locally established enterprises to scale, expand employment, increase value addition and strengthen Zambia’s presence in regional markets.
Through Wonderful Group, Mr. Yaochi Huang has contributed to Zambia’s productive capacity through significant investments that support local manufacturing, expand economic opportunities and strengthen the country’s industrial base.
Together, their achievements reflect the kind of visionary leadership that will be central to the success of the Grow Zambia agenda. They have shown that Zambia can be a destination for significant investment, a centre for competitive manufacturing and a source of products and enterprises that reach markets beyond its borders. Their recognition is therefore not only a celebration of individual achievement, but also an affirmation of the contribution that manufacturers and private sector investors make to national development. Their journeys underscore the importance of an enabling business environment that encourages investment, supports innovation, promotes local value addition and allows enterprises to grow and compete.
ZAM remains committed to working with Government and industry stakeholders to advance policies that strengthen domestic production, improve competitiveness, expand market access and unlock the sector’s potential to generate jobs and sustainable economic growth.
ZAM once again extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Iqbal Patel and Mr. Yaochi Huang on this well-deserved national recognition. Their leadership and achievements serve as an inspiration to the wider manufacturing community and demonstrate what can be accomplished when vision is translated into investment, enterprise and lasting economic impact.

As the Bank donates over ZMW 90,000 to the Great Achievers Network
Contribution will support vulnerable girls with basic school supplies and access to quality education
Lusaka, Zambia – [26 October 2026] – Standard Chartered Bank Zambia has donated ZMW 92,500 to The Great Achievers Network to support underprivileged and vulnerable Zambian girls with basic school supplies and help them access quality education during the 2026 school calendar.
The donation was presented at a cheque handover ceremony held at Standard Chartered Bank Zambia’s Head Office in Lusaka. The partnership reflects the Bank’s commitment to supporting community initiatives that address practical barriers to education and create opportunities for young people to progress.
Speaking at the ceremony Sonny Zulu, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc, said: “Education is one of the strongest foundations for individual progress and community development. However, the lack of basic school materials can prevent vulnerable learners from participating fully in school. Through this contribution, we hope to help more Zambian girls to continue their 2026 school calendar with dignity, confidence and the tools they need to learn.”
He added: “Standard Chartered values partnerships that respond to clear community needs and can create positive, lasting impact. We are pleased to support The Great Achievers Network in its work to expand educational opportunity for vulnerable girls. This initiative is a practical expression of our ‘Here for good’ brand promise and our commitment to the communities where we operate.”
The Great Achievers Network will apply the donation towards the provision of basic school supplies for identified beneficiaries.
Standard Chartered continues to seek meaningful partnerships that contribute to sustainable community development and help people realise their potential.

What will it take to unlock Zambia's real estate and infrastructure potential? In this Financial Insight panel, moderated by Mwelwa Chibesakunda, three of Zambia's leading industry voices come together to answer that question.
Inutu Zaloumis, Managing Director and Founder of Pam Golding Properties Zambia, brings 18 years of market experience to the table. She breaks down why digitising land titles and zoning systems is the foundation of a functioning property market, why growing towns like Solwezi, Kasama and Chinsali are being left behind by current planning processes, and why spreading Public-Private Partnerships across multiple mid-tier developers is smarter than concentrating everything in one large contract.
Nicolas Kabaso, CEO of the Lusaka Securities Exchange Plc (LuSE), makes the case for capital markets as the right funding vehicle for long-term infrastructure. He covers the limitations of commercial bank financing at rates above 25%, how REITs can return up to 80% of gross rental value to shareholders, and why Kenya's Acorn project, which raised $400 million for student housing, is the model Zambia should follow.
Mafipe M Chunga, Managing Director and Co-Founder of One Square K (1SK), shares how his development is already putting sustainable principles into practice. From gas stoves and solar geysers to passive ventilation design, 1SK is building with the future in mind, including a plan to go fully off-grid. He also makes a powerful point about demand in Zambia's housing market. It is not the problem. Delivering at the right price is.
One Square K has a planned listing on the LuSE Alternative Investment Market (AIM) board with the the offer expected to open this week. Money Acumen Advisory serves as Lead Financial Advisor for the listing transaction.

SHOPRITE ZAMBIA PARTNERS WITH ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURERS TO PROMOTE PROUDLY ZAMBIAN PRODUCTS
NATIONWIDE
The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), in partnership with Shoprite Zambia, has introduced dedicated Proudly Zambian gondolas in Shoprite stores across the country to increase consumer awareness and encourage greater support for locally manufactured products.
Launched during ZAM's Manufacturers Month in September, the partnership aims to encourage shoppers to "Think Local First" by making Zambian-made goods more visible and accessible.
The dedicated gondolas showcase products certified under the Proudly Zambian Campaign (PZC), providing local manufacturers with greater exposure while making it easier for consumers to identify and choose locally produced goods.
The gondolas have featured different Proudly Zambian certified products, showcasing the variety of locally manufactured goods available and giving greater visibility to participating Zambian manufacturers.
Shoprite Zambia already stocks a wide range of products from local suppliers certified under the campaign. The new displays build on this commitment, helping to strengthen the relationship between Zambian manufacturers and the retail sector.
The Proudly Zambian Campaign, implemented by ZAM in collaboration of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, promotes locally manufactured products and services. Consumers can identify certified products by looking for the official Proudly Zambian logo on their packaging.
While the dedicated gondolas were introduced as part of ZAM's Manufacturers Month activities, both ZAM and Shoprite Zambia hope to build on the partnership. Following a joint review, the two organisations will explore the possibility of establishing a permanent Proudly Zambian presence in Shoprite stores, alongside
supplier-matching sessions to connect local manufacturers with Shoprite's buying teams.
The importance of supporting locally manufactured products was reinforced by His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema during the ceremonial opening of the First Session of the 14th National Assembly on 9th October 2026.
In his parliamentary address, President Hakainde Hichilema stated:
"The Proudly Zambian Campaign is building national awareness to shift consumer and institutional purchasing towards locally manufactured goods and services.
Every Kwacha spent on a Zambian-made product and service retained in our economy supports jobs, sustains our factories, and strengthens the manufacturing sector."
As Zambia prepares to celebrate its 62nd Independence Day on 24th October, the partnership serves as a timely reminder that supporting local manufacturing is a practical way to contribute to national development.
By choosing Zambian-made products, consumers help sustain local businesses, support employment and strengthen the country's manufacturing sector.
ZAMBIA MINING & INVESTMENT INSAKA | QUICK TAKE
Following his panel session at the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka (ZAMII), Minera Refineries Zambia Managing Director, Mr. Andrew Mukupa Katandula, noted that Zambians are waking up to the strategic necessity of actively managing their mineral assets, beginning with sector-wide formalisation.
To deliver real impact, Mr. Katandula called for a national #gold management centre to oversee the entire value chain, from extraction and aggregation through to international trade. This end-to-end approach aims to plug leakages and ensure that critical resource wealth is retained directly within the domestic economy.

Can Zambia and the wider region move beyond raw mineral exports to build resilient domestic industries? That was the defining question during an insightful panel discussion at the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka (ZAMII), held at The Mulungushi International Conference Centre Ltd in Lusaka. Moderated by Eng. Sokwani W. Chilembo, Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Chamber of Mines, the session convened industry leaders to examine cross-border mineral flows, the commercial mechanics of local fabrication, and the untapped economic potential of gold and critical minerals.
Opening the dialogue on regional integration, Mr. Lv Yanlong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Chambishi Copper Smelter Co.,Ltd Zambia, emphasised the strategic value of bilateral mineral processing between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, arguing that shared refining capacity retains mutual wealth across borders far better than isolationist policies.
Addressing precious minerals, Mr. Andrew Mukupa Katandula, Managing Director of Minera Refineries Zambia Limited, insisted that gold must be managed as a strategic national asset rather than a basic export commodity. Pointing to Minera’s operational refining capacity of 99.99% bullion purity, Mr. Katandula outlined a structured two-year plan to formalise artisanal miners, deploy targeted pre-financing, and close the reporting discrepancies between domestic production and foreign trading hubs.
Broadening the downstream perspective, seasoned mining executive Mr. Norman Mbazima and Chairman at Valterra Platinum, advocated for expanding the domestic utility of gold and platinum into coinage, jewellery, and industrial applications rather than confining reserves to central bank vaults. Mr. Mbazima also clarified the commercial, freight, and gate-pricing frameworks that primary producers require to sustainably feed local manufacturers and wire-and-cable fabricators.
Concluding with an engaged floor discussion, participants drew nostalgic comparisons to Zambia's industrial heyday when the country manufactured its own bicycles, tyres, and vehicle parts, voicing an urgent call to translate long-standing continental mineral resolutions into tangible execution. Delegates commended His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema for driving an economic agenda with measurable targets aimed at returning more value within the domestic economy.

A visit, an opportunity to connect and conversations worth looking forward to.
Yesterday, SEEFF Chairman Samuel Seeff visited the SEEFF Zambia’s Lusaka branch. Acccompanied by Dr. Lusungu Kayela, he had the opportunity to familiarise himself with the team, tour the premises and engage with staff on the real estate industry. He shared insights into how the real estate industry operates across different markets worldwide, offering a broader perspective on the sector and its opportunities.
During the visit, he also sat down with Financial Insight’s Mwelwa Chibesakunda for an interview exploring the property market and the broader issues shaping the real estate industry. With Zambia continuing to experience a significant housing deficit, conversations around property development, affordability and investment remain important to the sector’s growth. Understanding how international real estate markets operate also offers perspectives that can inform discussions about the opportunities and challenges facing Zambia’s property market.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for an exchange with the team, as Seif shared insights into global real estate trends and discussed issues relevant to the Zambian market.
Seif expressed his satisfaction with the visit, while the team welcomed the opportunity to engage with him and gain insights from his experience in the sector.
Stay tuned to Financial Insight for more conversations with industry leaders on the developments shaping Zambia’s business and investment landscape.
