I’ll be honest. Every time I see another post calling Ardon Jashari a flop or a waste of money, I get frustrated. Yes, the €34 million fee set a high bar, and no, he hasn’t scored or assisted yet this season. But when I actually look at what he’s done in roughly 610 minutes across 12 games, the picture is different from the one most of us are painting.
He’s made eight appearances in Serie A (three starts, around 295–300 minutes) and started nearly every Europa League game he’s played (over 310 minutes). The goal contributions seems to be all some fans care about. What stands out to me is how secure he looks on the ball. His pass completion keeps landing between 91 and 95 percent: 94.7 percent against Bologna, 91.8 percent at Udinese, 93 percent in Europe. In one European match he completed 54 of 58 passes, including almost everything in the opposition half. That’s not a midfielder who’s a liability in possession.
Defensively he’s doing the unglamorous stuff without picking up cards, including recoveries, clearances, and the odd tackle. WhoScored has him floating between 6.1 and 6.65 in recent league games, with a 7.86 in Europe. For a 24-year-old still rotating behind Modrić while we’re sitting fifth on 21 points, that feels like a solid contribution, not a failure.
We keep judging him by the “Modrić successor” label and the transfer fee instead of the role he’s actually playing. He isn’t supposed to be the one arriving late in the box. He’s the one keeping things tidy so others can attack. The numbers this season show a reliable, low-error presence who takes his minutes without drama. Calling him overrated right now feels more like reacting to the price tag than watching what he’s actually giving us.
