After 22 years, as of midnight tonight I will no longer be the MP for Poplar and Limehouse. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our part of East London. I'd like to thank my constituents, my local Party, family, friends and staff for all their support over the years.

A coroner found that gambling disorder caused Stephen Goff’s death. This morning, his daughters, Madeleine and Freya, joined GwL co-founder @Charles_GwL on @GMB to speak out about their father's death and highlight the need for action to prevent more gambling suicides.

Burnham has shown an uncharacteristic lack of judgment on Brexit. Going back directly on a promise to his own constituents and re-opening the toxic Brexit debate will only remind voters of the appalling way Labour sought to undermine the referendum result in the first place. Really bad politics.

Very interesting piece @matthewsyed in @thetimes. Reminds me of the folly of telling kids in school that there are no ‘losers’ in sports!! A lesson in life is lost. There is nothing neoliberal about our culture of debt and bailouts thetimes.com/article/1b87ffd…

Male trade unionists demanding that their fellow males be permitted to take part in a women's political conference. Do they not have any idea how bad this looks?
Incredible joint union solidarity event this morning. All 11 unions standing together with the trans and non-binary community.

Merkel left office five years ago to huge acclaim. Why? She ripped off Nato, cultivated gas dependency on Putin, cosied up to China and opened the door to a million migrants in 2015 alone. She, not the populist right, was the true extremist of our age thetimes.com/comment/columni…

We cannot prevent what we do not recognise. This week, we were at the Lincolnshire Suicide Prevention Conference, sharing learnings from our work on gambling suicide. We are grateful for the opportunity to highlight why recognising gambling as a risk factor for suicide – and learning from deaths – is vital to preventing future deaths.

An alliance between radical Islam and the progressive left makes no sense. One demands submission. The other claims to love liberation. Yet across the West they march together. Why? My column thetimes.com/comment/columni…

Sincere condolences to @andyburnham on the death of his father. The most private and painful time for any family. The thoughts of all of us are with Andy and his family at this time.

Not complicated at all from @matthewsyed @thetimes and absolutely right in his analysis. Condemn settlers, yes, but beware progressives’ sinister coalition thetimes.com/article/0823410…

My speech in today’s debate about assisted dying. I am very sorry that the Bill - which I supported because it would help relieve human suffering - did not pass.

Today we launch our new report - Out of the Shadows: Why legalising assisted dying is safer than the status quo. It comes to a clear conclusion: the choice MPs and Peers are facing is between the status quo, with no oversight at all, and a tried and tested assisted dying law, with oversight and regulation at its heart.

Elise Burns and Keith Williams spent the final months of their lives campaigning for choice, so they could go out on their own terms. Both were denied their wishes.  Now their loved ones have picked up the baton, ahead of the assisted dying bill's Second Reading on 11 September.
