Let's finally fix crime, roads, and other basic local government failures plaguing our amazing city for decades. Demand better, prioritize differently. ⚜️

It shows up in different ways, but over and over again we see city leaders are reluctant to lock up criminals and fully prioritize safety & quality of life. #lalege 📰 New Orleans officials say jail inmate population should shrink: ‘Bursting at the seams’ nola.com/news/orleans-sherif…

Don't say I didn't try to warn. The idiots running this city just rinse and repeat glaring unforced errors from the past, no matter how many citizens have to suffer in the process.

🤷‍♂️ We brought it to everyone’s attention. The constitution only gives the Courts & the Bar Association the power to regulate DAs & attorneys #lalege will keep trying
Last year DA Jason Williams admitted that his office was conducting fake trials. His lawyers were saying they were "ready for trial" and then presenting no evidence and resting their case. Most of you probably never knew that because the media never covered it. Guess what consequences he faced? …None.

Yesterday the City dropped (very limited) new public records pertaining to the indictment of AG Liz Murrill. Text messages between Councilmen Hughes, Willard, and McCarron show their reaction to the changing language in the dismissal letter that Mayor Moreno (“boss lady”) and Councilman JP Morrell asked them to sign: Hughes: “I may just rewrite and propose an alternative. Conversely, HM and JP can send their own separate letters, and we can stay out of it.” McCarron: “I don't love it. I'd read a rewrite by you. Apparently JRW is writing one as well. Feels like we can't stay out.” Willard: “I disagree. I think we can totally stay out. If y'all are all good with a rewrite by JH, I'll sign on.” Willard and McCarron call the letter “dumb and risky”. Ultimately McCarron writes: “I'm going to sign. At this point it will create more questions if we don't sign since Moreno is sending regardless and JP and Freddie are signing. I don't love it but ultimately I just want to move on.”

Yesterday the City dropped (very limited) new public records pertaining to the indictment of AG Liz Murrill. There were several email drafts of the dismissal letter signed by the Mayor and Council. It changes a lot…. July 17 draft
- Testimony: "Our participation was limited to being served with court-ordered subpoenas to appear and testify under oath, and we complied fully with those orders."
- Intimidation: "allegations involving the intimidation of public officials should always be treated with seriousness." July 19 draft
- Testimony: "Our role in the investigation was limited to responding to properly executed subpoenas and providing testimony to the grand jury at their request.”
- Intimidation: "Efforts were made to sway our position" and "the heated rhetoric and political threats levied." July 21 final letter
- Testimony: Gone. No mention of it.
- Intimidation: "We were not intimidated… we never believed those threats could lawfully or practically be carried out."

Here are some texts of Councilman Amy McCarron: July 1 (day before indictment): “Do not respond to any media inquiries regarding this and do not discuss with anyone. You know nothing about it.” July 2 (day of indictment): “This is a good reminder that while this news is out, there is no news about who testified and grand jury testimony is sealed.”

I was OPSO general counsel when this "cap" was put in place. It was always illegal and unenforceable by the City, hence why it was shrugged off and didn't push back. No need. The City is required to provide a jail sufficient to hold ALL of the prisoners detained pursuant to the Court's detention holds. Municipalities have no authority to ignore that law via "caps." @susanguidry's moronic fight to artificially reduce the size of the jail has caused the City of New Orleans to continually be in violation of state law.
The Orleans Parish jail held 1,430 people Wednesday—180 over the city's legal cap. Sheriff Woodfork says overcrowding is blocking a new medical facility and federal compliance. She's requesting $17 million to fix it. wwltv.com/article/news/local…

Mississippi’s state auditor. Do we need this in Louisiana? #lalege @LAGovJeffLandry
Mandatory prison for politicians (or anyone else) who steal taxpayer funds. That’s what we need. I’m going to push for Mississippi to have the toughest law in the country this upcoming legislative session on politicians who steal. And I can’t wait to see who votes for it and against it.

Now that the Moreno administration is firmly in place, when will we see the state take an increased role in managing the French Quarter, @LouisianaLtGov? It’s important. 📰 Own a condo in downtown New Orleans or the French Quarter? Good luck selling it. nola.com/news/business/frenc…
👏 @LouisianaLtGov said @HelenaMorenoLA and @freddiekingiii are "very receptive" to changing how the French Quarter is managed. Great news. Will more local officials/candidates commit? Let's put a concrete plan in place. Thank you, @MichaelEchols, for the question and shout out.

Yes!!! Historic St Charles Ave., between Napoleon and Jefferson Avenue in Uptown New Orleans has finally been repaired. New asphalt. Very smooth. Very nice. This part of St Charles Ave. has been messed up for years, maybe a decade. Used to just beat the crap out of your vehicle. Not anymore. Good job City Of New Orleans. Keep it up!

Until we fix the obvious mismanagement in budget, we should not take any more tax payer money. We have way less people and WAY more money.
Apparently Mayor Moreno quietly convinced State leaders on the bond commission that she deserved a $7.5M cash line of credit this morning. According to this chart, Orleans Parish got 103% more than all other local government projects listed in the state, combined.

The goal is to have response times to under 1 minute. The DFR program is about getting eyes at a Call For Service (CFS) to determine threat level and resources needed… Reminder: these are calls made by the public to dispatch. Thanks for covering @TraversWDSU
