In 2024 I made the decision to stop posting my political opinions publicly after the election. Not because my side won or lost, but because of how divisive these conversations had become. At the same time, I said that if the President messed up in any meaningful way, I’d be willing to call it out. So here are some of my thoughts on last night’s midterms and the overall political climate.
I’m not even particularly mad or surprised at the blue wave. Unlike a lot of people, I don’t idolize politicians. Two years ago I voted to strengthen our borders, avoid new wars, and a few other priorities. Plenty of people came at me for it and I even lost friends. I was called less than educated, dumb, part of a cult, and told that the only reason Cubans historically vote red is because “we align with being white”—like we just abandoned our entire culture and identity when we vote. Nonsense.
Two years ago I said give him until the midterms, and if he sucks we’ll vote again and send a message. That’s what happened. Do people deserve to be spoken to in a condescending way over their political views? No. Did fascism happen or the “end of democracy” rhetoric come true? No. Did my day to day life change drastically because one man got elected? No. The hyperbolic nonsense needs to stop.
I’ve voted blue and I’ve voted red. One thing that became clear is how I was treated when I chose to think and vote for myself instead of falling in line with what the “cool guys” did. I will hold politicians accountable and speak up when I see fit, and this is one of those times. Trump 2.0 has been a significant disappointment. There were some positives, but the war in Iran largely negated them. The economic results, the handling of the Epstein files, and other issues haven’t helped either. On the border and enforcement side, reasonable people can disagree on the scale and methods, but the war itself stands out as the clearest unforced error.
Before anyone jumps in about “letting Iran have nuclear weapons,” they’ve been described as “extremely close” for decades. The same rhetoric has been pushed for years. The head of DNI publicly stated there was no credible evidence it was true at the time, and then left the role. I can go on, but you get the idea.
Maybe Republicans will learn from this clear loss. Maybe not. For now the pendulum has swung back the other way. I just hope people can get back to disagreeing over politics without letting it dictate a person’s value. I’m an American before I’m a Republican or Democrat. Lead with respect and hold these politicians accountable no matter who you vote for.
Lastly, one thing I’ll never support or vote for is a socialist or communist direction. I spent a week in a communist country in 2015 and lived with the people, not in some shiny government-controlled hotel. I grew up with family that escaped that same country (and still have some family there). I never really understood what they used to talk about until I went and experienced it myself. It opened my eyes to exactly what my family had been saying for all those years. So more than likely, if that’s the direction of either party, my vote goes to the side that is not pushing those policies.
If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read. I want to see a prosperous America regardless of who is in charge. Let’s hope this new Congress actually gets some meaningful bipartisan work done (wishful thinking).
Country > Political Party. Always.
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC 🇺🇸
Baseball rant...
Anyone saying fire cash is out their mind. The man put us in the position to win. Our bats didnt show up and our bullpen got tattooed. Cash cant hit, field, or pitch while coaching. It's reactionary from people that start paying attention in September. I will say some decisions were questionable but as a whole, our skipper is one of the best in the business. I will not turn my back on the guy responsible for putting this team one hit away from tying up the World Series games 1 and 2 away.
While we are here...
Taylor Walls can work on his bat in the offseason. The defense he brings is a rarity and i understand the liability he poses offensively, but for every run his bat doesn't produce, almost 2 runs were kept off the board. There were others who posses a fraction of his fielding ability who also went 0-11, 1-12. In my opinion he is the best there is for the price (3.1m) . #RaysUp #MLB

Every tune-in. Every trip to the Trop. Every pitch. Every strike. Every out. Every hit. Every home run horn. Every high five tunnel. Every sting machine run. Every mascot race. Every 7th inning stretch. Every shake of the cowbell. Every rally towel wave. Every crowd pop. Every roof lighting. Every “VICTORYYY.” Every “we’ll get ’em next time.”
Through everything and for everything - thank you, Tampa Bay.
