October 6, 1908: the brightest, happiest day in the history of mankind. Carole was born.

Last night I sponsored a screening of Dark Eyes (1987), a film directed by Nikita Mikhalkov. It was a private event in memory of a departed friend, and we showed the long cut, in which more of Isabella Rossellini can be seen. She sent us a touching 90-second video. Lovely lady.
Strike Up the Band has plenty going for it, if you can get past that syrupy, sanctimonious doting-mama, obedient-son subplot. It’s visually stunning and the La Conga number is a hoot. And then there’s Judy.
Now showing on the big screen. A series of films based on stage plays. And the joy of a catfight between Annie and Bette on an 11-metre-plus screen.
