Georgia Tech reached its breaking point Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets entered with little room left for another loss. Now there is almost none.
Boston College beat the Jackets 49-27 at Bobby Dodd Stadium, dropping Tech to 2-5 and requiring it to win four of its final five games just to reach bowl eligibility.
What made Saturday’s loss especially revealing was how quickly Tech took control and how quickly that control disappeared.

Halftime: Georgia Tech 13, Boston College 12.
Two of the Jackets three trips inside the 5 resulted in field goals instead of TDs. BC kicking woes helped Tech out.
Alberto Mendoza was 11 of 15 for 110 yards and a TD. Kevin Roche Jr. scored his first career touchdown. Jordan Allen had three catches for 72 yards.
Georgia Tech 10, Boston College 12.
BC has missed a field goal and two extra-point attempts. The Eagles are averaging 10-plus yards per carry, already have 114 rushing yards.
Georgia Tech leads Boston College 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Already a combined 10 penalties — 6 on BC, 4 on GT — for a combined 100 yards. smh
Georgia Tech 10, Boston College 0.
The Jackets had a touchdown wiped off the board twice on that drive, one for a false start at the 1 and another for holding after Mendoza connected with Jordan Allen in the end zone. Settled for 3.
Georgia Tech 7, Boston College 0.
6-foot-9 Kevin Roche Jr. comes through with a red zone touchdown catch. His first career TD.
Also on that drive:
Jordan Allen had his longest catch of the season (43 yards). Alberto Mendoza had his longest completion (43) and longest run of the season (27).
We're about 90 minutes away from kickoff of a game Georgia Tech can't stand to lose.
Brent Key says six games should tell you who a team is. Six games have told him that he has a team whose identity is inconsistency.
“It’s a little bit like a different team showing up every week,” he said.
With injuries again depleting the depth chart, which version shows up today?

Just arrived at Bobby Dodd Stadium for Georgia Tech-Boston College. Tawfiq Thomas, previously listed as doubtful, and Vincent Carroll-Jackson, questionable, have been ruled OUT today.
Jordan Walker and Josh Petty are listed as game-time decisions. They will dress out and go through warm-ups but odds are long they play. We'll see. Kelvin Hill is also a game-time decision. That's a true 50/50.
Georgia Tech Friday night injury report adds another one — cornerback Kelvin Hill is questionable for Saturday
Georgia Tech men’s basketball assistant coach Wes Flanigan violated NCAA recruiting rules while he was an assistant at Ole Miss, according to a Division I Committee on Infractions decision released Friday.
The NCAA penalties stem from Flanigan’s time at Ole Miss and do not impose any restrictions on Georgia Tech.

Another starter on Georgia Tech’s injury report — Tawfiq Thomas is doubtful to play against Boston College. Savion Riley is out, Jordan Walker listed as questionable.
Brent Key's presser went for more than 30 minutes today. Plenty to unpack, but Key said he's spent time digging into inconsistency, game to game, half to half, play to play. He's made tweaks to practices and changed game-day responsibilities for assistants on staff.
Beyond changes in structure, Key also touched on the mental side of issues seen in the 2-4 start.
"Emotional control," Key said. "Playing with emotion, but not emotional. Biggest challenge we have with this football team right now. What leads to a lack of consistency? Emotional reactions to previous plays, good for bad. Put it all in a nutshell — there you go."
Brent Key: “This team needs to understand, anybody can beat anybody on Saturdays. We’ve shown that we can play with anybody on Saturdays, and we can get in a hole and then turn it around and come out of it and play. But it’s the consistency that goes through that.”
Brent Key: "I'm not sitting here trying to blow smoke by any means, but there was improvement made in places. That's what you have to show the guys. Guys have to understand, we improved here, here and here and we didn't here. Well, let's find out why we didn't."
BLACKSBURG, Va. — Georgia Tech’s turnaround lasted just a week.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind Virginia Tech by three touchdowns in the first half Saturday and lost 34-24, putting a dent in the progress from last week’s upset of previously undefeated Duke.

Georgia Tech cuts the lead to 7 with a 33-yard TD pass by Alberto Mendoza to Dalen Penson.
Jackets have scored 14 points in five offensive plays in under three minutes in the third quarter.
