Happy birthday to Joni’s dear friend Neil Young! Celebrating with their performance of “Helpless” alongside The Band during The Last Waltz in November 1976.

“Someone told me there's a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.” A line from Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California,” said to be inspired by Joni herself, 57 years since the band first came together. Photos by Don Howard

“He was playing real good for free.” Easing into a new month with Joni’s performance of “For Free,” a song about a man who played on the corner of 6th and 8th in New York City, on the Dick Cavett show, recorded in August 1969.

Joni’s first appearance on The Johnny Cash Show was such a success that she returned just a month later in July 1969, performing a heartfelt rendition of “The Gallery.”
