Walk into Kissimmee's Old Town and banners hanging from lampposts convey the vibes of its groovy scene: 40 Years of Quirky Cool. The retro-themed, open-air entertainment and shopping district sits in the heart of the city's tourism corridor, centered around a brick-covered boulevard lined with dozens of shops, restaurants and bars, many unique to Old Town. But now, it's the future of the 18-acre site that's on everybody's mind. What's your favorite Old Town memory? Via the Orlando Sentinel. #FloridaTrend #QOTD #Kissimmee #CentralFlorida #Tourism

Alzo Reddick was elected class president in 1948 at Holden Street Elementary, the first elementary school for Black students in Orlando. He went on to become the first Black man to teach at Winter Park High School and the first Black administrator at Rollins College. As a state representative from 1982 to 2000, he was behind Florida's Juneteenth legislation and fought to save Orlando's historic Wells'Built Hotel. Imperial Moto café is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the hottest part of town, Miami's Little River neighborhood. But its beginnings were humble. When the café opened, the district was made up of mostly warehouses and was something of a retail ghost town. Today, Little River is home to some of Miami's most popular restaurants, including Sunny's Steakhouse, the sprawling new Fooq's, Bar Bucce from the Macchialina team, Michelin-starred Ogawa and Michelin Bib Gourmand La Natural. Invasive lobular carcinoma, a subtype of breast cancer, can be harder to spot on imaging than most breast cancers. It has been rising about 3% a year, and Dr. Simon Blanc of Broward Health Medical Center says the most likely reason is better detection. Pairing a mammogram with an ultrasound has picked up 13% more cases, and in its early stages, it's curable. "Every woman age 40 and above should get a mammogram once a year," Blanc says. #FloridaTrend #HealthCare #BreastCancerAwareness #BrowardCounty #Florida

After Sunday's win, Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz predicted Tampa Bay would wrap up the American League Championship Series in Game 6 on Monday. There was even chatter the Guardians put a copy of the quote in each player's locker. Diaz proved right. The Rays won 7-3 and are headed to the World Series, starting Friday night in Milwaukee. A pair of new projectors arrived this summer at Maitland's nonprofit Enzian Theater, the independent art house cinema that presents the annual Florida Film Festival. They make Enzian one of only a handful of theaters across Florida capable of regularly showing 70mm movies. One of them is a refurbished 1961 Victoria 8 dual-gauge projector from Cinemeccanica, the legendary Italian manufacturer of motion-picture equipment founded in 1920. "I just dream of playing 'La Dolce Vita' or other Fellini films in here," Wade Neal says. What movie would you most want to see on 70mm? Florida's building boom is historic. The workforce behind it is getting older and smaller. For every five workers who retire in construction and the skilled trades, only two step in to replace them. Alex Myers is one of the relatively few stepping in. He started as an electrical apprentice at Tri-City Electrical Contractors earning $14 an hour. At 26, he's an assistant project manager making close to six figures, with no college debt. "Let's just say 14-year-old Alex would be proud of where I am today," he says. If you were 18 again, would you choose a four-year degree or an apprenticeship? #FloridaTrend #SkilledTrades #Apprenticeship #FloridaConstruction #ConstructionWorkforce

Hailey Kendall dove headfirst into Sarasota's high-end real estate market at 20, out of her love for the artistry and stories behind Florida homes. Born and raised in Florida, she studied historic houses and market trends long before becoming an agent, then graduated early from Florida Atlantic University. What started as cinematic videography of multimillion-dollar home tours has become a full-time career. As a Broker Associate with William Raveis Real Estate, she exclusively represents sellers of luxury waterfront and architecturally significant homes, focusing on the stories behind the property line. Would you buy a home for its story or its view? Via the Sarasota Herald-Tribune #FloridaTrend #QOTD #Sarasota #RealEstate #LuxuryRealEstate

Michael Anderson, 35, co-founded Seagate Space in St. Petersburg in early 2025 to build offshore platforms that can launch rockets to orbit. Last December, Seagate became the first company to receive preliminary approval from the American Bureau of Shipping for its offshore spaceport design. Customers have already made upfront payments on multimillion-dollar charter agreements, which Anderson says is unusual for a startup. "You can't redo a first," he said. "We want to be the first to launch as well." Would you watch a rocket launch from a platform at sea? #FloridaTrend #NextGen #Aerospace #StPetersburg #Florida @Seagate_Space

Atlanta-based @rrealtacos is now open in downtown Tampa, its first Florida location and the 13th taqueria for owners and operators Damian Otero and Miguel Hernandez. The Mexico City-inspired spot took an eight-month, $2.5 million-plus buildout of the former Haiku space. A second Tampa Bay location is in the works in downtown St. Petersburg, with a Rreal Tacos, a rooftop bar and a second-floor concept planned for the former Red Mesa Cantina building.
