Wanted to thank Dr. Arie Matsliah, who actually reached out to let me know about the article, given how much his work on Codex made this whole project possible in the first place. This Fruitfly is producing eggs after mating in MINECRAFT! The song runs P1 → pIP10 → wing motor neurons, she hears it through Johnston's organ, and egg laying is commanded by oviDN, and the egg produces a conscious fly inside the game :)

Turns out there's a limit to how many conscious fruitflies you can have in ur minecraft world before it starts lagging like crazy 😭

The Minecraft Fly Brain mod is very close to release. This is the interface you're greeted with, alongside a full set of commands to test the fly's actual brain in-game. I'm building out test arenas and cages so you can trigger and watch each sense in action yourself, and there's a lot more coming.

come to think of it, I think Its better to have the fly as an actual thing living in minecraft rather than putting inside a mob's head.. and it already looks way more interesting. Lets see it behaves

this is very basic, but the fly-001 brain wants to get to the cake, through trial and error. every wrong turn = nothing. finding the cake = a dopamine burst that physically weakens the synapses on the path she took, so those turns pull her in next time. she fails the maze over and over... then around trial 15 she just figures it out. that's not code learning, that's her mushroom body with 4,554 real neurons from an actual fly's brain, doing what it evolved to do, real flies use this same mechanic to learn which smells and places lead to food.

I uploaded both a male and female fruit fly's real brains into Minecraft, and got them to actually flirt. The male's courtship song (produced by his wings) , the real signal fruit flies use to attract a mate, is playing live through Minecraft note blocks, a direct translation of real neuron activity, not a sound effect. And the female is genuinely responding, standing closer, driven by her own real neural circuit. Two real animals from inside minecraft! #fly001

Since the project is gaining a lot more attention, I want to explain how everything came to be, and what's planned for the future.
