Someone from the Muslim world mocked the Japanese, saying, “You got nuked, yet you still lick America’s boots.” But if we’re going to talk about history, let’s take an honest look at your own history, too. Japan was hit with two atomic bombs and formed an alliance with America after its defeat. But what about your countries? Many countries in the Muslim world have a history of being ruled by Western powers, yet continue to cooperate with Western nations diplomatically and militarily after gaining independence. Some even maintain security and economic partnerships with countries they fiercely criticize over Palestine. If you call that practical diplomacy, why is Japan’s alliance with America suddenly “bootlicking”? Rebuilding a nation after defeat and cooperating with a former enemy to protect your national interests isn’t humiliation. It’s a sovereign nation’s choice. If you’re going to mock Japan over its history, then explain which countries your own nation cooperates with today and what compromises it makes to protect its interests. Nobody has the right to demand that Japan live forever in the shadow of its past while judging it by a different standard. So tell me, what exactly do your countries do better than Japan? Or is this nothing more than jealousy?
