In 3 days, Xi Jinping will sit across from President Trump in Washington.
Before he leaves, President Trump should have an answer from him: when are the Americans that China is detaining or banning from returning home coming back?
For Wang Bingzhang, Gao Zhen & his family, U Min Zin, Pastor John Cao, Nelson Wells Jr. & Dawn Michelle Hunt & others, what happens in that meeting matters enormously.
These are Americans who should be with their families, not behind bars or trapped by travel restrictions in China.
@POTUS, don’t let this meeting end with handshakes while these Americans remain separated from their families. Demand their freedom. Demand their return. #BringThemAllHome.

Remarks at @TheSoufanCenter #GSTPV2026, by @LevinsonD, Chair of @JamesFoleyFund about global threats facing journalists & highlighting the case of Reza Valizadeh, an American journalist wrongfully detained in Iran:
“That is why the Foley Foundation works to ensure that when journalists are detained or taken hostage, their families are not left to navigate the response alone — and why we continue to push the U.S. government to learn from every case: what worked, what failed, and what needs to be stronger the next time.
But this is not only about learning from past cases. Iranian-American journalist and U.S. citizen Reza Valizadeh is wrongfully detained in Iran today. He has been imprisoned there since 2024. His case deserves the full attention of our government and of this community, and we must continue pressing for his freedom.”

The RNC midterm convention highlighted @potus @realDonaldTrump’s successes, including the American hostages and wrongful detainees he has freed and brought home. Three of these Americans - Wilbert Castaneda, Ksenia Karelina, & George Glezmann - took advantage of the spotlight on them to advocate for other Americans still being held. Here they are holding cards that they handed out during the convention, each with the names of other detainees & QR codes linking to more information about each of the detainees cases. Thank you George, Ksenia, & Wilbert! And thank you President Trump! ⤵️🇺🇸

In 1 month, @POTUS will meet President Xi at the White House. Currently, there are at least 12 Americans unjustly held in China. The Trump administration has continually demonstrated that the return of Americans unjustly held overseas is their top priority. PRC officials need to understand that for there to be a productive visit between the leaders, it is imperative that Americans come home, particularly U.S. academics Dr. Youlin Chen and Min Zin.

Am really lamenting the multiple missed opportunities to secure the freedom of our Americans wrongfully detained in Iran. Trust us - those of us who have had loved ones wrongfully detained there & who spent years trying to get our U.S. govt to act quickly to bring home our Americans know better than anyone that the deals don’t get better - the only thing that happens by waiting longer is risking their health, their lives, and their misery. @freerezav #freeKamranHekmati

Robert Gilman is free!!!! Unjustly detained for 1,667 days, more than four-and-a-half years.
Congrats to his family and advocates, the @JamesFoleyFund, Global Reach, @BOFHcampaign, @StateSPEHA, @SteveWitkoff, @SecRubio, @whitehouse @realDonaldTrump and everyone who worked to free him. Wishing him a strong and speedy recovery. ❤️🩹
May Stephen Hubbard and all the other Americans be next, as well as many if not all of the political prisoners held by Putin’s Russia, starting with Alexei Gorinov. The U.S. can do both! #FreethemALL
"The White House and the State Department have urged Moscow to release Robert Gilman, 32, so he can receive urgent medical treatment in the U.S., said Eric Lebson, chief strategy officer of Global Reach, an advocacy group representing his family. Gilman is being fed through a tube, he said."

Today marks 2 years since the prisoner exchange that released Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Vladimir Kara-Murza, and Alsu Kurmasheva. This effort was the largest US-Russia swap in post-Soviet history and was the culmination of 13 months of work. We honor these incredible returnees and their families who tirelessly championed their release.
The Foley Foundation encourages all people with loved ones who are currently in captivity to never lose hope for their safe return!

The stars. A family hug. The quiet privilege of ordinary days.Grateful beyond words for every moment since that flight home. Thank you @jmhansler @CNN for capturing this chapter. The road back is long, but we keep walking it together with @JamesFoleyFund and many others until every last one is free.
Two years ago today, Paul Whelan, Alsu Kurmasheva, Evan Gershkovich & Vladimir Kara-Murza were freed from Russia
I spoke with @paulnwhelan & @AlsuKurmasheva about the past two years and their work to help others who remain detained

Two years. I’m truly blessed to be free, surrounded by the best people, and doing the most meaningful things.
On August 1, 2024—two years ago today—@AlsuKurmasheva returned to her family in a historic prisoner exchange, alongside @evangershkovich, @paulnwhelan, @vkaramurza, and others.
I remain deeply grateful to @StateSPEHA and the U.S. government and its allies for the moral courage it took to trade Russian spies and a convicted murderer for innocent Americans. That decision saved lives and reunited families. It would not have been possible without the sustained pressure from @RFERL's @RFERLPress advocacy team, the @JamesFoleyFund, the @CPJ_Eurasia, @freedomhouse, the @PressClubDC, @RSF_inter, other press-freedom organizations, and the media that refused to let Alsu’s case fade from public view.
But gratitude isn’t where this story ends. The Russian officials who orchestrated Alsu’s imprisonment and held her as a bargaining chip must not remain unaccountable. FSB officers, the lead investigator, Justice Ministry officials, prosecutors, and the judges who sentenced her to 6½ years in a secret trial for a crime she never committed—their names remain on the record. They should never again access the international financial system or set foot in the free world.
Atop them all sits the man in the Kremlin who ordered the detention of Americans specifically to trade them for Russian spies and assassins arrested in the West.
Russia has operated for years as a de facto state sponsor of wrongful detention. Many more Americans remain imprisoned there. It is long past time to designate Russia as a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention under the Countering Wrongful Detention Act and hold these officials to account.

Thank you Neda and PBS for highlighting the plight of Americans held hostage in Iran. Let us bring them home asap!
Foley Foundation Board Member @NedaSharghi featured on @NewsHour, sharing her family's fight to bring home her brother, Emad Sharghi, and reminding us that Americans wrongfully detained abroad must never be forgotten. Her advocacy shines a light on the resilience of families and the urgent need to keep these cases in focus.
