There's pretty much no intra-company mobility nowadays. I can't name the last time I've seen someone promoted vertically, but there have been plenty who've moved horizontally to "sales" in a foolhardy attempt to make more money. If you don't have multiple incomes, you're cooked.
The era of choosing a career you're passionate about and working for 40 years ended in 2016.

Sales is largely reputation and product dependent, but they'll gaslight you like it's not and you're at fault. If you were at Dell that last few years, you kiIIed it. If you were in legacy business software, you got wrecked.

The one exception that comes to mind is if they know you've recently bought a house (i.e., parents bought you a house) or if you just had a heckin' daughterino. You'll receive the first and last meaningful promotion of your life, because they know they've got you by the balls.

It's hard to go back once you've gotten used to multiboxing full time jobs. And I don't mean it in the cash flow sense (though that is the main advantage). One job feels too slow, boring even. Two, three, etc. jobs feel like a proper RTS: you're constantly switching contexts.

Playing RTS games is, without exaggeration, one of the most mentally draining activities that exist. MOBAs--their little brother who got dropped as a kid--come close, but it's mainly the four other people on your team who are the source of the pain and suffering.

I am serious. I am very jealous of people in wealthy diaspora communities in major coastal cities. There is literally no benefit whatsoever to being a “Heritage American” or whatever you call it in the 21st century.
Replying to @Y2K_mindset
I am just bitter and wish I had been born into a wealthy diaspora community in a coastal city and then maybe I could have been cultivated to eventually make money doing “art” and “culture”

Long Meta, long Google, long people milling about watching short-form AI videos in public on speaker.
If you're ever feeling too optimistic about the future, just look at birth data.

I read something interesting the other day that suggested every developed country already exists, and it would remain that way as the cost and concentration of technological capital rises. There's only four or five countries that are actually capable of building nuclear plants.

🚨 Indonesia’s stock market crashes over -11% recording its biggest crash since 1998. MSCI is considering downgrading Indonesia from an "emerging" market to a "standalone" market. A standalone downgrade could force global funds to sell Indonesian stocks, triggering billions of dollars in outflows. The move comes amid concerns over market transparency concentrated ownership and trading integrity. The announcement triggered a massive sell-off and forced a temporary trading halt. The Indonesian rupiah falls to 18,070 per dollar, nearing its record low of 18,190.

I'm not sure people are even aware local storage exists. iCloud's revenue is sustained entirely by women with hundreds of gigabytes of travel, food, and pet photos.
Hard to ignore how casually so many tech people hand over terabytes of their data to someone else's computer like it's completely normal.

Western economies only care about pumping the valuations of Boomer NFTs (single-family homes) into the stratosphere. Everything is downstream of this, from local elections to immigration policy.

I don't vote, but I looked out of morbid curiosity, and around half of the state propositions on the ballot have to do with Boomer NFTs. I'm sure it's the same in your state.

I think Halloween got cancelled this year. There's one house with decorations, and it looks more forlorn than festive. I've hardly seen a pumpkin either.

You can't really enjoy the fall, because October is maximum wageslavery month. Everyone who did nothing the last six months tries to get everything done before the end of the year (the third week of November).

You need to develop your own taste. This is indistinguishable from an LLM. Urasawa isn't even that good, but you'd never know it unless you'd read him.
Comic fans who's only knowledge of manga is shonen jump arguing with manga fans who's only knowledge of comics is cape shit both have literary merits you just need to stop reading kids slop

The proper Urasawa reading experience is getting one-third of the way through a manga, and then dropping it to go do literally anything else that's more interesting.

I don't want to see Vinland Saga anywhere near a top manga list either. What a disappointment that was.

I relate too much to the lonely wandering Jew to feel any personal disdain for him.

I really want my own copy of the Beatrice, but you can find the entire lithograph portfolios at auction for not too much more.
