Sersi could turn a battlefield into flowers. Phastos could invent a cure for every plague, a machine to end hunger. Ikaris could melt every tank, every gas chamber, every slave ship with his eyes. They saw Hiroshima burn, saw children in Auschwitz, saw empires build themselves on the backs of stolen people — and they stood on a beach and had a philosophical debate about non-interference. Their boss Arishem told them "only stop the Deviants," and they treated that like a moral law instead of what it was: a performance review from a middle manager. That's not obedience. That's cowardice dressed as duty. And Thanos is where their excuse collapses. Thanos erased half of all life — including their friends, including half of humanity they were sent to "protect." And they did nothing because he wasn't a Deviant. At that point, you are not following orders. You are complicit. A police officer who watches a man drown a child because "my job is only traffic violations" isn't innocent — he's a monster who likes having an excuse. The Eternals wanted the prestige of being protectors without the cost of protecting anyone. They wanted to be loved by humans they never actually loved back.

Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, Yangchen — four lifetimes of wisdom said the Fire Lord had to die. And they were right. The war had burned for 100 years, cities were ash, children were soldiers, and Ozai was about to burn the entire Earth Kingdom to the ground. Aang's answer was "I can't, it's against my culture." But his culture was already dead. The Air Nomads were gone, and he was holding onto their pacifism while the living were begging him to do the one thing that could stop it. He didn't have a plan. He went to the final battle hoping a lion turtle would magically appear with a third option. And it did — but only by luck. If the lion turtle hadn't shown him energybending, if Aang had missed, if Ozai had been a second faster, Aang would have lost and the world would have burned. He risked everyone — Sokka, Katara, Toph, the entire Earth Kingdom — on a technique he learned five minutes before the fight, just so he wouldn't have to break his personal code. That's not pure, that's selfish. He chose his own spiritual comfort over the certainty that millions would live.
