A basketball innovator. A Mavericks legend. An impact that will never be forgotten.
We mourn the passing of former Mavericks head coach Don Nelson and celebrate a life that left an incredible mark on our franchise and the game of basketball.
Rest in peace, Nellie. #MFFL
Maybe it changed later, but I was at Hero Saturday night with my wife prior to seeing a comedian at the AAC. It was during the first quarter of mavs wizards and not a single tv in the place was on the Mavs game. That felt very odd but also very fitting. Changes are needed.

October 11, 1984: A preseason game between the Mavs and 76ers at Reunion Arena in Dallas is cancelled with 3:19 to go in the first quarter due to "an over-waxed floor."
Philadelphia led 22-14 when the game was stopped.

Good morning! My cover story on Dirk Nowitzki is now online. TV, life after retirement, the Mavs, Harvard business school, secret hoops training sessions, the next Nowitzki hooper, Dirk playing jazz flute -- it's all in here. I hope you enjoy.

Hey, hi, hello. I profiled Dirk Nowitzki for the cover of our October issue, and we talked about everything from TV to taking business classes to the Mavs.
Also, we got him to dress up like Ron Burgundy. Here is visual proof.
Go buy a copy! I can't wait for you to read it.

My wife got a kitten today from a rescue organization. I tried to push for “JJ Purrea” or “Martin Meowsepp” but she wasn’t going for it.
Flagg says he wears 32 because it was his mother’s number when she played. He wore number 2 at #Duke because the university retired it for some guy name Christian Laettner who once played for the #Mavericks.

I’m told Jameel Warney gave his full blessing for Flagg to wear #32

It’s been almost 20 years since the Mavs have won a playoff series in consecutive seasons.
2025 & 2026. Wild.
I think it’s safe to say the mavs won’t win a playoff series this year. Assuming that happens, it will continue their streak of making it to at least the WCF in one season and then missing that playoffs or losing in the first round the next season. ‘88, ‘03, ‘06,’11,’22,’24

Trying this again: I wrote about being in the American Airlines Center last night and how Luka Doncic was remembered on his terms, not the Mavericks’. Because if this showed us anything, it’s that Dallas is still his city, even though isn’t.

Tough loss last night. That was hard to watch. I’m resurrecting an old idea I had for an instagram to post daily Dirk highlights, I called it “@dailydirkdose”. Give it a follow. I’ll try to do a daily post

I don’t spend much time on here anymore but one thing I do appreciate about the years I did spend on here was making genuine connections with fellow NBA history fans. While we never met in person, I truly cherished the interactions I had with @HoopsRandom on twitter and insta.
Heartbroken to hear of his passing. We became friends, reminiscing on NBA history, sharing the hidden YouTube gems only diehard NBA fans would love, & bonded over sharing our love of the game with our young sons. He celebrated my son’s first in game basket like a proud uncle.
Follow him on instagram “instagram.com/randomhoops?ig…” . He recorded so many things on VHS years ago and shared them online for fans all around the world. His passion should still be enjoyed.
I will miss him. RIP, Reece. 💔
