Update: As we continue to assess the impact from this weekend's storm and receive updates from our FortisAlberta Control Centre, we can share that more than 67,000 customers were impacted by outages with approximately 28,000 affected at the storm's peak.
This past weekend, more than 28,000 customer sites lost power during a severe windstorm that caused widespread damage to poles and wires across central Alberta. Many customers were without power for an extended period and we thank you all for your patience and understanding while crews worked tirelessly to remove fallen trees, make repairs and restore electricity service. Thank you to our employees who safely and methodically restored power, in some cases one impacted customer at a time, and to those working behind the scenes. And a special thank you to all the technicians who stepped up to join the call from our sister company, @FortisBC, in addition to the contract crews who joined the front-line effort to accelerate restoration times. #abstorm #TheLineThatConnectsUsAll #TeamFortis 🙌

OUTAGE UPDATE 🔧 Progress so far
Since the height of the storm, we’ve reduced the number of customers without power from approximately 28,800 to 1,330. Crews have made significant progress, but there is still considerable work ahead, particularly in areas where damage is extensive.   🗺️ Current status
Crews continue to see significant damage, including downed wires, damaged poles and trees on power lines. Because of the extent of the repairs required, some estimated restoration times are now extending later today and into tomorrow. We know how difficult this is for customers who have already been without power for a long time.   👷‍♂️ What we’re doing
All available resources are deployed, with additional crews from B.C. supporting our teams. Crews are working safely and as quickly as possible to make repairs and restore power. We’ll continue to update our outage map as restoration estimates change.   🦺 For REA customers
Members of FortisAlberta-operated REAs can continue to use our outage information or contact our Customer Care Centre. Customers served by other REAs should contact their REA or operating utility directly.   🙏 Thank you for your continued patience. Our crews are working hard to get your power back on. #abstorm

As we continue to assess damage and make repairs across our service territory, we’re seeing significant damage in some areas, including downed power lines, trees on lines and damaged or downed power poles. Please continue to put safety first. Treat all downed power lines as energized and stay at least 10 metres (30 feet) away. If you see a downed line or damaged electrical equipment, keep yourself and others away and report it to our team at 310-WIRE (9473). Thank you for your continued patience and for helping keep our field employees and communities safe. #safety #abstorm

As we start the day, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the tragedy at CFB Wainwright. There really are no words for moments like this. Our hearts are with the families and friends who are grieving, those who have been injured and the entire Wainwright community. A tragedy like this is felt far beyond those directly affected and we know many across Alberta are holding this community close today. From all of us at FortisAlberta, we’re thinking of you.💛#wainwright

Another extreme windstorm is impacting Alberta for the second time in four days, causing significant damage, including downed power lines and damaged poles. Our crews are mobilized and working to restore power safely and quickly as conditions allow. Given the extent of the damage, some customers are expected to remain without power overnight. If you are currently without power we are asking you to prepare for an extended outage. As we continue to triage and assess damage, estimated restoration times will be updated on our outage map. To everyone impacted, we know this is difficult, particularly after another significant windstorm. Thank you for your patience and understanding as our crews continue restoration efforts.
