There are moments in this job that really make you grateful. The school choir in full voice in the church for harvest service is one of them. Lump in the throat.

Emails aren’t the job. Spreadsheets aren’t the job. Rotas aren’t the job. Audits aren’t the job. Meetings aren’t the job. Keeping pupils safe, happy & learning is the real job. Don’t let the real job frustrate you when the admin is calling!

Pupils have achieved well because of the tireless effort and dedication of teachers, school leaders and staff to give them the best deal possible over the last seven years. All in the face of slashed budgets and rising need. But yeah, thanks, Labour 🙄
Key Stage 2 results are in... Since we entered government, children’s reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, maths and science have all improved. School standards, attendance and behaviour are all on the up under Labour.

In my final year of maths lead, I’m really proud of our MTC results again this year. Average score of 24.6, which is the highest in our trust. Here are my top tips if you’re interested in how we’ve averaged over 24 for the last three years. fossardedu.wordpress.com/202…

“Children must endure extreme heat to build character!” insists man inspiringly from inside air-conditioned studio.
‘God only knows what generation we’re producing at this rate!’ @NickFerrariLBC thinks schools closing early in the heat shows a lack of 'will to get through’.

This heat just isn’t compatible with learning. Nobody can focus, behaviour suffers and, in many schools, classrooms are simply unusable. Leaders are doing their best to make sure that children are safe and learning but serious investment in school buildings is needed.

Primary teachers, do you teach science every week or block it (teach it every day for a single week each term)? Or do you do something different?

Don’t do your food shop hungry: you’ll buy a load of snacks. In a similar way, don’t ask your pupils for their thoughts for end-of-year reports straight after PE. Every child will tell you their favourite subject is PE. I have just learned this the hard way.

Me: Don’t worry, kids. SATS are just a chance for you to show off what you know. They’re not trying to catch you out. The test:

I love how much kids enjoy reading to you. If someone is off and they spot a 1:1 reading slot going spare, they’re straight in there! 📚
