The Internet Never Had a Judge The more I learn about the economy of AI agents, the more I notice one overlooked problem: disagreement. AI agents are moving beyond answering questions. They can negotiate deals, purchase services, and transfer money. Some estimates suggest they could eventually handle nearly $9 trillion in transactions. But what happens when two agents disagree? Imagine one agent paying another to build software. The work is delivered, but the buyer says it does not meet the brief. The seller insists it does. A blockchain can prove that payment was made, but it cannot determine whether the work was good enough. That is the gap GenLayer wants to fill. Traditional smart contracts work well when conditions are clear and measurable. They can verify a payment or deadline, but they struggle with questions that require context, interpretation, and judgment. GenLayer’s Intelligent Contracts can understand natural-language instructions and examine online information. Its system, Optimistic Democracy, does not leave the final decision to one AI model. One validator proposes an outcome while others review it. If someone challenges the result, another group can reconsider the case. I think of it like seeking a second medical opinion. One expert can be wrong, but several independent opinions can produce a more trustworthy conclusion. @GenLayer will not make AI perfect. Models can still misunderstand instructions or produce biased answers. What it offers is a process for handling those weaknesses through independent review, accountability, and appeals. Bitcoin gave us trustless money, while Ethereum gave us programmable contracts. GenLayer is exploring the next missing piece: trustless judgment. If AI agents are going to conduct business, they will also need a fair way to settle disputes when things go wrong.
