Clearly the tone of coverage grates with people who care most about ‘proper cricket’ but watching Nicholas Pooran and Sam Curran bat the other night was still a demonstration of skill and daring intent. That and five-day craft/graft each have their place.

So, it does seem to have value as an entry point into the sport - and hopefully those who are enticed by the sixes and fireworks and big-screen sideshow stuff will gradually explore other formats, to widen cricket demographic.
