I used to roughneck in the oilfield, now I build AI for the energy industry. cofounder/ceo @collide_ai

I had the pleasure of writing for @a16z on the future of the American oil and gas industry. This is one of the most critical problems to work on today. I will share the link in the comments. Let's build.

I once tripped pipe for twelve hours in the hot west Texas desert while I had the flu and a 101 fever. Sorry if I don't have sympathy for software engineers complaining about burnout and hard working conditions.

Claude code is a massive bottleneck. 1 engineer = 1 Claude subscription and maybe a few terminals running on a few tasks. Agent swarms with a dynamic harness make Claude code look like child's play. I'm at my kid's football game right now and have 20 agents building in parallel on a 128gb machine adhering to all of our engineering standards without a human touching the code.
After a good chat with @fracslap I’m convinced Claude Code, as amazing as it is, is holding us back. Developers are especially prone to linear thinking. At first, the Claude Code harness looks like a lever on your creativity and imagination. (Notice the lowercase c and i.) That much is true. Also true: it’s a leash on your Creativity and Imagination. (Notice the uppercase C and I.) Lowercase is linear execution. Same tickets, same repo, same loop, just faster. It takes you from a 1x developer to a 5x developer. Cute. Uppercase is exponential thinking. It takes you from a 5x developer to a 1000x builder. Notice I said builder. The harness is built around one question: how do I ship this task faster? Builders ask a different one: what would make this task disappear? Agents that run while you sleep. Tools people use without you in the loop. Systems that build the thing so you don’t have to. Claude Code makes you a faster developer. It can’t make you a builder. Use the lever. Lose the leash.

I hate the "things that didn't happen for $200 Alex" losers on this website.

Based
Since Monday morning, I've gotten 90 Anthropic auto-reload receipts in my inbox as of 2pm today. About a third came in after 6pm or before 8am. The latest (earliest?) one was 4:28am. @FracSlap said no usage limits this week so we can get our shit built... wait until you see what we cooked up 🤌🏼

never in my life did I think I would see someone hyping up Pecos, Texas
Drove 1400 miles over the last two days to check out Pecos, TX. I was 100% right about the potential there. You can just feel it in the air. That town is going to absolutely explode over the next decade. So much activity and optimism and money flowing in. Every single thing I see there tells me that it’s *the* place for a young person trying to get rich to go live right now. Whether you’re doing real estate development or opening a barbershop or starting a restaurant or a bar or an insurance agency, Pecos needs *everything*.

This is sick. Accelerate.
Proud to announce what we've been working on: Prosperity One. Site control on 4 thousand acres of extraordinary land. It includes ultra high voltage transmission, rail, and the mighty Ohio River, and a welcoming county, making for one of the best places for nuclear on earth.

If you're a company worried about AI agents making mistakes, wait until I tell you about your human employees.

"Can't Claude just do that"
Everyone wants to deploy AI agents in oil and gas. Almost nobody does the boring part first. 12,000 land and title docs. Scanned, handwritten, never linked. We turned them into one graph: - every well tied to its lease - every lease tied to its tracts - every answer traced back to the page it came from The trick is you solve the data problem before the agent ever touches it. Agents are easy. Trust is the hard part. xitter.cf/FracSlap/status/210611…

OpenAI picked off my founding AI engineer last month. You would not believe how much street cred that has got us in the market.

I love when I hire a software engineer from the coast and I see them rocking a Big Oil hoodie in the office on day one. We are hydrocarbon evangelists.

Just saw a tesla drive itself with no human to the charger. Then a human came up and plugged in its charger. We really are just meat suits.

4 bodies have been found in the Houston bayous over the last two weeks. The annual numbers are up 71% and speculation of a serial killer on the loose continues to increase.

I traded my O&G jersey for a digital infrastructure jersey a few years ago. The conferences are have a very 2014 energy vibe…on steroids.

If you want to learn about the financing of data centers, read this. Chuck ran Kayne Anderson's $6.5B energy fund and draws a lot of parallels between oil and gas financing and data centers.
Spent 20 years watching banks lend against rock on a formula built for a different rock. Now they're lending $60 billion against chips on a depreciation schedule built for a different chip. I know how this movie ends. I was in it. Link below to new Old Man Coffee.
