Volt profileert zich als een radicale klimaatpartij. Maar hoe realistisch zijn de klimaatplannen? En hoe voorkomt @DassenLaurens dat de mensen die het 't zwaarst hebben, niet het slachtoffer worden van energiebeleid? #Nieuwsuur

Because they’re not houseguests. They’re paying customers. The same way no one helps the restaurant cleanup or do dishes after dinner is over, even though that would be totally normal if you went to a friends dinner get together.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

There is none..
There's no mechanism that exists *today* where an AI could kill everyone on earth.
Even if you launched every nuclear weapon, there would still be people.
These Anthropic employees are just insufferable.

This is the textbook definition of a Greek gift. On the surface, OpenAI generously grants 10,000 top-tier mathematicians and elite engineers free access to their frontier models under the noble, philanthropic banner of accelerating scientific discovery, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, and democratizing artificial intelligence.
But deep down in the cold reality of Silicon Valley capitalism, what they are actually doing is executing a massive, highly sophisticated intellectual heist. They are quietly gaining unrestricted, backdoor access to the raw, unfiltered, and unpublished works of the absolute finest minds in the global scientific community. Every single complex prompt, every mathematical query, every theoretical framework, and every line of experimental code fed into that system is a novel, groundbreaking idea that does not even exist yet in published academic literature or peer-reviewed journals.
OpenAI does not just provide a helpful service. Their corporate algorithms sit quietly behind the scenes, aggressively monitoring all chat logs, scraping the intellectual property, analyzing the logical steps, and meticulously piecing together these fragmented, brilliant ideas over several months. And just when the human researcher is finally on the absolute brink of putting everything together, OpenAI will ruthlessly assemble a digital army of 10,000 autonomous AI agents, burn $20 million worth of computational tokens, and brute-force the final mathematical steps.
Then, with the backing of their massive PR machine, corporate journalists, and tech influencers, they will proudly hold a press conference to claim that their proprietary chatbot has miraculously solved a Millennium Prize problem, completely, shamelessly erasing the human genius they systematically strip-mined to achieve it.

One of the main reasons the EU now has 75% support in Europe is that the EU's opponents are evidently unbelievable morons who oppose wildly popular policies like: Making it harder for scammers and cheats to pretend AI generated text was written by human hands.

This is actually really funny.
1.) Anthropic claims profound capability acceleration while selling models whose differences most customers can barely perceive. If Fable, Opus 4.8 and 4.7 feel effectively interchangeable, that looks less like an intelligence explosion and more like a rapidly commoditizing product.
2.) Frontier researchers are confusing the automation of their own unusually automatable profession with the automation of the entire economy. Their work consists of code, papers and measurable digital experiments, exactly where AI is strongest. Pretraining and post-training teams watching their own jobs disappear is not proof that everyone else’s will.
3.) Majority of businesses are not bottlenecked by intelligence (perhaps besides trading firms and most research jobs). Their moats are execution, distribution, customer relationships, trust, regulation, physical infrastructure and scarce assets.
4.) The erosion of frontier labs’ technical moat may explain their sudden interest in slowing the frontier. Open and cheaper models keep catching up, while regulation could create the durable barrier that model performance has not: expensive compliance, controlled compute and government approval.
We support this petition, signed by our CEO, several co-founders, and senior staff.
Our own research on recursive self-improvement, published last month, points to the need for tools to deliberately pace the frontier of AI development so society can prepare. We’re glad to see broad agreement across the field. pacingthefrontier.com/

If you are Jewish, you can move to Israel.
If you were born in what became Israel, grew up there & were expelled by gunpoint, but you aren’t Jewish, you can’t move to Israel.
Not so complicated after all. It’s called apartheid and Jewish supremacy.

Anthropic’s CEO keeps talking about AI wiping out jobs because he’s trying to IPO this year.
If he positions Claude as armageddon for jobs, his TAM becomes “all white-collar human labor,” not just AI agents or SaaS.
It’s completely self-interested. All the concerns he’s expressing about job disruptions are fake.
It’s a marketing gambit to create hype and FOMO among the people he needs more than anyone else this year: institutional investors like BlackRock, Fidelity, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds.
If these investors pay for tickets on the hype train—if he can make them believe that AI will eliminate half of white-collar jobs, with Anthropic, as the dominant leader in enterprise AI, positioned to capture the surplus margin—the IPO will be oversubscribed and Anthropic can raise more funds for the company at a higher valuation.
But Dario (or, at least, his bankers) knows that these investors are more fiscally disciplined than they used to be. A lot of them got burned during Covid SPAC-mania and don’t want to risk it again. They’re going to challenge Anthropic about whether it will ever get to sustainably high gross margins, or if its arms race with OpenAI will lead to kilowatt-hours permanently suppressing gross margins. They’re going to ask pointed questions about Anthropic’s massive capex and whether it will ever generate accretive ROIC.
And Dario might not have the answers they’re looking for.
So that’s why—to answer Austen’s smart question—you keep seeing Dario in the news and the podcast circuit, spreading doom and gloom about widespread job loss.
It’s not to make you afraid of losing your job. It’s to get Wall Street afraid of missing out on his IPO.

The Nazi depiction is just that - a depiction. Photographic evidence of Israeli abuse isn’t a depiction. And you can’t brush off an Israeli crime because of German antisemitism.
This insane logic would mean that Israelis can commit crimes with complete impunity forever. Which is exactly what you want of course.
Try to find the difference between Italy's @espressonline magazine and the Nazi Der Sturmer's depiction of Jews.
I was not able to see any difference.
Any Holocaust museum and scholar who is silent in the face of such antisemitism has forgotten the main lesson of the Holocaust--do not remain silent in the face of evil.

Seeing way too many people essentially saying verbatim “once they said it was their culture Sabrina shouldn’t have acted negatively towards it” which is just outrageous. Culture is not just a magic word that completely excuses you from judgement or being told to take it elsewhere
