Before you head out for trick-or-treating, here are a few reminders:
- Be visible: Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags, carry glow sticks or flashlights, and wear light-colored clothing.
- Walk safely: Use sidewalks, stay with your group, and cross at crosswalks. Look both ways and avoid stepping into the street between parked cars.
- Choose costumes carefully: Keep costumes short enough to prevent trips, choose face paint over masks that limit vision, and look for flame-resistant costumes and accessories.
- Plan ahead: Younger children should go with a responsible adult. Agree on a route and return time with older kids.
- Check your treats: Visit homes with porch lights on, never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle, and have an adult inspect treats before eating.
- Drivers, slow down, put distractions away, and watch for children who may cross unexpectedly. Take extra care when backing out of driveways or parking spaces.
Have a safe and happy Halloween, Frederick!
A visit with Frederick’s littlest neighbors? A sweet treat for Officer Grant!
Officer Grant joined the children and parents of Miss Amy’s Neighborhood Preschool for some trick-or-treating fun, complete with creative costumes, sweet treats, and plenty of smiles.
Located in downtown Frederick, Miss Amy’s helps children explore, learn through play, and build connections with the community. For FPD, moments like these give our youngest residents a chance to feel comfortable with officers and get to know the people behind the badge.
Thank you, Miss Amy’s, for including us in your Halloween fun. It’s a treat to be part of your neighborhood!
Introducing our Angel Tree, a new way to support Santa Cops that makes holiday giving easier! Stop by the Frederick Police Department, choose a tag, and help turn a local child’s holiday wish into a smile.

2. Shop for a new gift using the wish-list information on the tag.
3. Return your gift, preferably unwrapped, with the original tag by Monday, November 30, at 5 pm.
Prefer to give without choosing a tag? Donate a new toy to our lobby drop box! Handouts with popular gift ideas by age are available, too.
Find us at 333 Fifth Street, Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm.
Thank you for making room on your holiday shopping list for a local child. Your kindness helps families feel supported, children feel celebrated, and our community shines a little brighter.

We recognize the people who answer the call when our community needs help today. Chief Norris shared a message of gratitude for our first responders and the families who support them:
"Today, on National First Responders Day, I want to recognize the courage, dedication, and heart of the men and women who take action to protect lives. By serving with integrity, treating people with compassion and respect, and showing up when our neighbors need us most, the Frederick Police Department works to build a safe community where people can live, work, and thrive on what matters. To our officers and all other first responders, thank you for your sacrifices and the care you bring to our community. To the families who stand behind you, your support and sacrifices do not go unnoticed. I am proud to serve alongside people who give so much of themselves to make a difference in others' lives."

Please join us in welcoming Officer Damien Wise to the Frederick Police Department!
Officer Wise was sworn in today and is excited to serve the Frederick community. Positive interactions with police officers as a child inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement, and the sense of family within the Frederick Police Department drew him to our team.
We asked Officer Wise, “What’s one thing you’d like residents to know about the Frederick Police Department as you begin your role?”
He shared that building trust, serving with respect, and keeping the community safe are priorities. He’s looking forward to getting to know the people who make Frederick special, building meaningful connections, and making a positive impact.
When he’s off duty, Officer Wise enjoys playing golf, watching football, and spending time with family.
Welcome to Frederick, Officer Wise! We’re glad to have you on the team.

Help Santa Cops Close the Gap! The need in our community is rising, but so is our ability to help. Between 2023 and 2025, the number of families and children joining Santa Cops went up by about 33%. We still need to raise $8,000 to reach our 2026 goal and bring more holiday cheer to local kids.
As more families need help, community support matters more than ever. Your donation lets Santa Cops give kids wish-list gifts, warm coats, boots, and other essentials across Carbon Valley.
A few clicks can brighten a child’s holiday. You can donate securely online today: checkout.square.site/merchan…
If you’d rather give in person, visit the Frederick Police Department at 333 Fifth Street, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, to donate cash or a check.
Together, we can make sure local children get the gifts, warm clothes, and holiday joy they deserve.

On the morning of September 29, Community Services Officer Milano answered a call about a sick Great Horned Owl. The owl couldn’t open its eyes and, unlike usual, didn’t try to fly away when someone got close.
Seeing that the owl needed expert help, CSO Milano carefully caught it and brought it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
Great Horned Owls look majestic, and they truly are, but their strong talons can be dangerous. Handling them the right way keeps both the owl and the helpers safe.
Our CSO was honored to help and make sure this beautiful bird got to safety. Sometimes, being a hero just means putting on gloves and giving an owl a ride to the vet.
Just a reminder: Healthy wild animals usually stay away from people. If an animal lets you get close, can’t run away, or acts oddly, it might be hurt or sick. Please stay back and call Weld County Communications at 720.652.4222. Or 911 if it is an emergency.
The Blue Heart Initiative helps first responders better recognize and support people who have unique communication, sensory, medical, or behavioral needs.
Residents can join this voluntary program and get a Blue Heart sticker to put on a car, home, wheelchair, backpack, or other personal item. When first responders see the Blue Heart, it reminds them to pause, be patient, and consider whether a different approach could make the situation safer.
A small symbol can make a big difference.
Learn more about the Blue Heart Initiative and how to get a sticker today!
