We are saddened to hear of the passing of David Wilkie, who was an iconic figure in our sports.
Among many accolades, David was crowned Olympic champion in the Men's 200m Breaststroke at the 1976 Montreal Games.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Have your say on how the #GreatYarmouth Winter Gardens are restored following a welcome grant from @HeritageFundUK. The Grade II building was on our 2018 Top Ten Endangered Buildings List so we are glad the process is beginning to bring the building back into use. #Norfolk
Share your feedback on our exciting plans to revitalise the iconic #WinterGardens, restoring the iron & glass structure to its former glory as a #PeoplesPalace on the town’s seafront thanks to funding from

We are urging the @cityoflondon to reject plans to cantilever a tower over a listed Victorian Turkish bath house – the exterior of which is covered in show stopping tiles. Worryingly most of the proposed site is outside the tall building cluster. bit.ly/3K4q369

I've never managed to get a response from the Long Street baths, but all my unchecked info seems to suggest that these are vapour (Russian) baths rather than Victorian Turkish baths—good for a steam though! Anyone been there? Help?!
Our next stop as we travel #RoundTheWorld in 80 Baths is #Capetown #SouthAfrica and the Long Street Indoor Pool, which is in fact the original 1908 bathhouse in Long Street. And it still has its #TurkishBaths!

Historic Turkish baths in Carlisle are named by the Victorian Society on a list of the ten most endangered buildings.
The Victorian Turkish Baths in Carlisle were closed last year.
A group of campaigners are pushing for the baths to reopen.
