#Iran Last Jan, thousands of protesters were killed. At least 46 protesters executed since March; the highest number of political executions in nearly 40 years.
Protestors have been unlawful detained, their cases riddled with procedural unfairness and gross HHRR violations. 2/

UN Special Rapporteur Gina Romero’s @Ginitastar solidarity with the "#NoToExecutionTuesdays” hunger strike should translate into global action to stop executions in Iran, including independent international inspections of prisons and the prosecution of regime officials for crimes against humanity under the principle of universal jurisdiction.
An end to executions must also be placed at the heart of all political, economic and international relations with the Iranian regime.

On the eve of the #WorldDayAgainsttheDeathPenalty, the Iranian regime sends a mother of four to be executed, in violation of international law.
This tragic incident once again underscores how poverty and economic hardship—which strip families of the ability to afford even the most basic needs, such as education—give rise to mental health crises and catastrophic consequences that result in nothing short of the collapse of families.
According to state-media reports, 87.5 million out of Iran’s 90 million population now require assistance to afford basic living essentials. (Iran Online, August 18, 2026)
This situation is the direct result of pervasive corruption and plunder by the ruling regime, alongside decades of squandering national wealth on nuclear, missile, and warmongering projects—policies that have driven the country to the brink of economic collapse.

Members of the European Parliament debated the human rights situation in Iran, notably the cases of Taraneh Rahimi and Leila Abolhasani, on 7 October 2026.
On 8 October, they adopted a resolution calling for the annulment of all death sentences, the unconditional release of all political prisoners, and a referral of Iran to the International Criminal Court by the UN Security Council.
The vote took place just two days before the World Day Against the Death Penalty on 10 October.

Message to conference on World Day Against the Death Penalty
The World Day Against the Death Penalty is humanity's clear "No" to the Iranian regime—a regime defined by executions and massacres.
For nearly half a century, the main target of this regime's executions has been the Iranian Resistance.
Yet, standing against this regime, the National Council of Resistance of Iran holds high the banner for the abolition of the death penalty in tomorrow’s free Iran.
