Eight games in, I ranked all 11 Knicks rotation players by on/off net rating. The team is +5.0 per 100. Even though four of the 11 players are negative. Not even a 30-point win against the Bulls could fix that. Guess the four before you click 👇👇👇

Tyler Kolek named Taylor Swift the Knicks’ fakest celebrity fan on an NBA 2K League video this week and called her courtside presence performative. Deuce McBride agreed. Kolek mentioned besides the Finals, "I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games.” If real fandom is an attendance test, by that standard the realest Knicks fans alive are Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan. The dude in Bayside who has watched every game on MSG Network since Van Gundy was hanging off Alonzo Mourning’s leg wouldn’t qualify, since he’s never been able to afford a seat in the building. Real Knicks fandom runs on time served, and 53 years between titles minted a lot of it. The criteria: Ewing’s finger roll from Game 7 against Indiana in 1995 still plays in your head, and it still rims out. Frederic Weis means something to you. You booed a draft pick on draft night and own his jersey now. The 17-65 season, watched on purpose, start to finish. If your first Knicks jersey has 2026 stitched on it, welcome. You’re on probation until you sit through this team losing a playoff series it was supposed to win. To me, Swift clears the bar. The internet dug up photos of her at a Knicks game in 2014, a year the franchise went from 37-45 to 17-65. She was in the building for the Game 4 Finals comeback from 29 down, and the team put out a statement calling her a fan of many years, which tells you how the front office views the optics of her in the building. Kolek knows this feeling from the other side. At the June parade the NYPD stopped him on the route because they took him for a fan who’d hopped the barricade, and Rick Brunson had to walk him away from the officers. I find Swift insufferable, and her music hot garbage, but who the hell am I to say she ain’t a fan?

SNY just canceled SportsNite, shut down its website and laid off much of its staff. Thank the heavens they kept Ian Begley. Nobody delivers better intel and coverage of the Knicks than my main man, @IanBegley I wrote about why voices like his are so crucial to coverage and understanding of the team 👇

Breaking: Kristaps Porzingis announced he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. Porzingis said his body hasn't responded as anticipated while preparing for the season and that he will work with the Warriors to find a solution that makes sense.

Jordan Clarkson is the most important player on the Knicks bench and he only plays 10 minutes a night. New York is plus 45.8 per 100 with him on the floor and minus 6.4 without him. Mike Brown gave him a DNP in Detroit last week. He should be playing 20 mins. He answered that DNP with 18 in 17 minutes while the Knicks came back from 19 down in Chicago. The full on/off numbers and the tape in the comments 👇👇👇

Mike Brown keeps pulling Mikal Bridges in the third quarter and Stefan Bondy hinted the hey should move him, so I ran all 30 cap sheets to find exactly which teams could take on his contract. Exactly 19 teams can take his $33.5 million and send the Knicks back for less. Only five of the realistic deals are worth Leon Rose considering a trade call this season if things don’t improve. Guess the five. Full trade list in the reply. 👇👇👇

The Warriors are not delivering payments to Kristaps Porzingis on his $20 million salary, ruling that he is not rendering services, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater. Golden State is permitted to move his contract at any point before the Feb. 11 deadline even without paying him currently, and will continue exhausting trade avenues as the 31-year-old leans toward ending his NBA career. Absorbing Porzingis' near-expiring deal would allow a rival team to move a salary out and save money and clear a roster spot via a buyout.
Reporting for NBA Today on Kristaps Porzingis seriously contemplating stepping away from basketball -- for good -- as the Warriors explore trades using his nearly expiring contract:

Update: After agreeing to a two-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Norchad Omier has changed his mind and plans to sign a two-way deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources told @hoopshype. The Timberwolves now have an open two-way spot after waiving Enrique Freeman.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will waive two-way forward Enrique Freeman, who’s dealing with a minor injury that’ll keep him out for a few weeks, sources told @hoopshype. He averaged 16.5 points on 54.2% shooting, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last season with the Iowa Wolves.

The Knicks can trade the guy they benched Monday. They can’t trade either of the two guys who closed in his place until at least Dec. 15. Three teams can take Mikal Bridges’ $33.5 million without New York touching the starting five. Keep him or move him? I did the research and came up with three realistic, sound trades. In his sole year at the helm, New York went 26-18 and was the No. 8 seed in the playoffs before getting swept by the Atlanta Dream in the semifinals.
