Think Eugenio Chacarra's TaylorMade Spider Tour S Long putter looks a bit different? Well it is!
TaylorMade Tour Rep Alex Marine said fitting Chacarra into his 47-inch putter was a 4-5 month process.
Marine said they had a relationship from working with Chacarra during his Oklahoma State days, but they hadn't gone real deep into fitting him until this summer.
"He first switched into Spider Tour S Long at the Nexo Championship and then over the next few weeks continued to do some work to refine the characteristics of the putter to produce what he was looking for," Marine said.
That led to a realization at the BMW PGA Championship in September that a 79-degree lie angle was too upright for Chacarra. The Race to Dubai leader has used a long putter going back at least to his college days and most have them have been about the 79-degree lie angle, which is pretty standard for most long build putters.
TaylorMade putter rep James Holley helped Marine and Chacarra work through a solution.
"He would aim left and toe it in attempt to start it online which created inconsistent speed," Marine said. "We found that if the putter was flatter, he would be able to get his eyeliner more inside the ball and line it up better.
"So we flattened it from 79° to 76°. Between the shape and stability of the Spider Tour S and the total weight of 870g, we built a high MOI putter at the exact spec to fit Eugenio’s stroke and the feel he was looking for with Pure Roll."
Despite already having two wins on the season, Chacarra also worked with the reps and the GRASP Smart Putting gate to help hone in his mechanics.
"He was hitting the ball and looking up straight for it with a short backswing," Marine said. "So I would hold his head while he was putting to keep his head down and that got his path a lot straighter and his follow through and backstroke a lot longer as well."
It all came together for Chacarra last week at the DP World India Championship when he was fifth in SG: Putting at Delhi Golf Club.
His third victory of the year places him in the driver's seat for a Race to Dubai title and virtually assures him of a spot on the PGA Tour next season.

It's already Monday in Japan, and that means Titleist is announcing the beginning of Tour seeding and validation for the new 2027 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls.
While the new golf balls first hit the USGA Conforming list three weeks ago at the Biltmore Championship, this week's Baycurrent Championship in Japan serves as the official Tour launch.
Titleist is staying quiet on the technical details, which will come with the ball's retail launch, likely coming in January or February if traditional launch cadences hold.
PGA and LPGA Tour pros, including players like Adam Scott, Ryan Gerard, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Justin Thomas, Lottie Woad, Matt Fitzpatrick, Yana Wilson and Viktor Hovland, have been testing the final prototypes of the ball since March.
“When we’re in the middle of a testing session and a player asks me how soon he can play the new ball, I know we’re onto something,” Titleist's Director of Tour Research & Validation, Fordie Pitts, said in a release. “That’s how it’s been the last couple months.”
With the balls hitting the conforming list early, several players have already made the move, including Neal Shipley, who switched to the 2027 Pro V1 in Asheville, sparking both his career-best round (62 in Round 2) and finish (T3) on the PGA Tour. Three other players, (2 Pro V1 and 1 Pro V1x) joined Shipley in gaming the new ball in North Carolina.
Others have joined in the weeks since, including Robert MacIntyre, who switched this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
McIntyre loved what he saw in a testing session with the prototype at Harbour Town in April and worked with Titleist tour rep Liam McDougall to dial in the new 2027 Pro V1 last week.
Doug Ghim, who is currently in solo second at the Bank of Utah Championship on the back nine of his final round, is playing the new 2027 Pro V1x for the first time this week.
With lots of Tour stars in Japan this week, it will be worth watching who else moves into the 2027 Pro V1 at Yokohama Country Club.
