After experiencing so much on the trail of Julius Sachse and his accounts of early theosophical communities in Pennsylvania, it was genuinely moving to visit his resting place… …among many family members inc. the Sadtlers, a generational dynasty of ‘renowned chemists’ 🙏🌹

Wonderful manuscript in the PA Grand Lodge, a rare French precursor c.1760s to the Geheime Figuren… or ‘Secret Symbols of the Rosicrucians’. This version is a link between the DOMA and Geheime documents, with its own unique pages showing the symbolism of alchemical birds. 🙏🌹

Have to say, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania has the most impressive lodge rooms I’ve seen anywhere in the world… putting aside the Grand Temple at UGLE 🙌 Wonderful tour and more on the library visit soon! 🌅

Spent today in the woods around the Wissahickon, visiting the cave of 17th century alchemist and mystic Johannes Kelpius. Unlikely to be the specific cave he would meditate in, but you can feel their spirit still resides here, surrounded by the streets of Philadelphia. 🙏🌹

Ephrata is an early theosophic community in the American colonies, founded 1732. Mixing monasticism and households, a key example of radical pietism. Also said to harbour a secretive order of angelic theurgists… We made our blessings at dawn under the planetary alignment. 🙏🌅

20 years after founding Harmony, George Rapp founded a third (and final) community Economy in 1824. Three alchemical labs were on site and Rapp had a personal copy of Paracelsus’ Opera (shown) as well as Welling’s Opus mago-cabalisticum et theologicum. Next stop, Ephrata… 🙏🌹
