When I got laid off from Microsoft, I got into a company in Lagos that felt paying 600k naira a month was doing me a favour. I had to take the offer to keep body and soul together. Was there for 6 months until I fell out with the MD and started looking out. That was when I started my training outfit but couldn't quite get traction. Anyway, after leaving this NGO, I spent another 5 months in the wilderness, literally. Ate rejections almost every other day. Was living on the goodwill of friends and relations. Basically wondering what to get out of life. An Antler rep came knocking at the time and was in the process of fast tracking my application to the Antler cohort at Kenya. Guess what? My passport had expired. Ran to go fast track my passport, after a few days emailed the partner but was told it was too late. I remember laying in my room laughing hysterically, mulling to myself, "who I offend?" Thankfully at that time, I applied to Andela and the process started for another 2 months. I got into Andela and my monthly salary was my previous annual salary. This trend continued in a subsequent company. Use am run one or two that year. But the point is, while I was enjoying this new reality, I asked myself, "why did you worry all those times?" In hindsight, there was no reason to. I should have just chilled for 5 months, enjoyed myself. But we are human and can only understand life in hindsight. As long as you believe this it will work out for you: EVERYTHING will turn out better than you expected, just stop worrying.
When it all works out, you'll be so pissed with yourself that you worried so much.

True. Growing up, we played outside with friends under the moonlight while our parents gisted. I hardly see that anymore, except in villages. Now everyone fences their houses as high as possible and keeps to themselves. It’s not African; it’s copied.
The difference of philosophy between the west and Africa is the fact African philosophy was based on community and western was more individualism. Both valid in their own way but different. Makes me understand why we hold our ancestors so high. Why my grandma used to gather all of us and narrate what her grandma used to teach her about who she is, people she’s from and the community she rises from. I feel like colonialism has took the Africans philosophy which played apart in this division. But that’s just my opinion.

Thank you for your advice, Akintollsnake. How about you account for the dollar donations you received for 2023 elections under the umbrella of the obidient movement. People sent you money for billboards. We no see dollars, we no see billboards. AKIN, WHERE IS THE MONEY?
Don’t fund a billionaire’s election. Use that money to develop yourself and plant seeds for your own future wealth. Supreme leader Dickson doesn’t need your help buying diesel for the generators at his Bayelsa home meetings, and the candidate doesn’t need your contribution to fuel the private jet he flies on his wealthy friends’ accounts. Leave campaign finance to the billionaires and the wealthy who can write it off on their books.

Go to any football pitch in the world this evening. A dusty field in Lagos. A beach in Rio. A cage pitch in London. A narrow street in Cairo, Jakarta or Lima, with two stones and/or a stack of blocks for goalposts Wait for a free kick. You will probably see a boy step back, plant his feet wide apart, puff out his chest, take a deep breath and stare at the ball like it owes him money. You know exactly who he is copying. Cristiano Ronaldo retired from international football today. 23 years with Portugal. 146 goals in 234 games, more than any man in history. And I promise you, that boy on the street doesn't know half of those numbers. He doesn't need to. He knows the stance. He knows the "Siuuu." He knows the man. That's enough. That is what I want to talk about today. Not what Ronaldo did for Portugal. What he did for the boy watching from thousands of kilometres away. Think about it. Some of the people reading this were children when Ronaldo made his Portugal debut in 2003. Some weren't even born. For an entire generation, he has always been there. Every summer tournament, every big night, every argument about who is the greatest. Football without Ronaldo is something millions of fans have simply never known. Every young player knows the story by now. The skinny boy from Madeira, laughed at for his accent in Lisbon. The boy who stayed behind after training. The one who did sit-ups in his room at night. The ice baths, the diet, the gym when everyone else had gone home. Whether every detail of that story is true or not, the lesson landed in every corner of the world: talent alone is not enough. You have to outwork everybody. And he kept proving it. He was still scoring for his country at 40, still winning a Nations League final at 40. Players are supposed to fade by 33. He made "old" look like a choice. It went beyond the pitch too. A generation learned from him that a footballer can be a brand. That your body is your business. That how you speak, how you dress and how you carry yourself matters as much as your first touch. He became the first person in the world to reach one billion followers across social media. One billion. That is not a fanbase. That is a planet. Now, let me be honest with you. Not every boy copying the free kick stance will become a professional. Most won't. But many of them will take something from him that lasts longer than football. Discipline. Self-belief. Showing up every day, even when nobody is watching. That is a legacy you can't count in goals. So to every boy standing with his legs apart before a free kick this evening, in Lagos, in Rio, in London or anywhere else, keep doing it. Just remember the part of the story that happened when the cameras were off. Obrigado, Cristiano. My name is Ajoje. I am a FIFA Licensed Agent and International Sports Lawyer. I write on the Law and Business of Football, a lot. Repost and Follow if you want to read more posts like this.
