India said NO to Starlink.
Musk thought he could throw a public tantrum and bully India into handing him a telecom monopoly, but he completely miscalculated.
Thanks to Trump’s reckless betrayal of global allies and cozying up to dictators, the world is waking up to a terrifying truth: you simply cannot trust America—or its arrogant billionaires—with your national security anymore.
Fareed Zakaria:
“Elon Musk picked the wrong moment to lecture Indians.
Frustrated that Starlink had not been cleared to launch in that country, he accused the government of protecting Mukesh Ambani whose telecom network Jio will launch its own satellite service.
Musk cast himself as the champion of ordinary Indians against one of the country's richest men. It backfired. India's government dismissed his accusation as baseless.
An influential nationalist group close to the ruling party went further demanding that Starlink be kept out of India altogether citing national security. Media and online reactions were similarly hostile to Starlink.
Musk did not understand that in India as in much of the world, trust in America is collapsing. Indians have watched as Donald Trump has discarded 25 years of bipartisan outreach to New Delhi in favor of cozying up to Pakistan and its de facto dictator Field Marshal Asim Munir.
They have watched Trump essentially abandon Ukraine, where the military version of Starlink has been suspiciously restricted, thus crippling Ukraine's military response to Russian aggression.
Would India define itself in another crisis with Pakistan? Would it want its armed forces to be utterly dependent on a US satellite system controlled by Trump?”

I called to cancel my health insurance because I couldn't afford the premium anymore.
The rep asked why I wanted to cancel.
I told her I'm paying $685 a month for a family plan with a $9,000 deductible.
That's $8,220 a year before I've even paid for a single doctor's visit, prescription, or emergency room bill.
So if someone in my family gets seriously sick, I'm still looking at thousands of dollars in medical expenses on top of the premiums I've already been paying all year.
I asked her what exactly I'm supposed to do with a plan like that.
She explained that the policy was designed to help cover eligible medical expenses after I met my deductible.
I told her I understood how insurance works. What I don't understand is how a family can pay more than $8,000 a year for coverage and still be terrified of getting sick.
She didn't have an answer.
WE'VE CREATED A HEALTHCARE SYSTEM WHERE PEOPLE ARE PAYING THOUSANDS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM MEDICAL BILLS THEY STILL CAN'T AFFORD.

You’re a billionaire oligarch terrified of a democracy you can’t control. You bought a social media platform, turned it into a propaganda sewer, and now have the audacity to lecture Americans about democracy while attacking the idea of giving millions of citizens equal representation. You don’t fear the end of democracy. You fear a democracy you can’t buy, manipulate, or control. Democracy isn’t dying because more Americans might get a voice. It’s threatened by arrogant billionaires who think their bank accounts entitle them to a louder one. The hypocrisy is fucking staggering.

Immigration policy must be driven by the present, not the past, and business leaders are too terrified of the left AND the right to acknowledge this.
Recent H1B discourse revolves around a longstanding immigration sleight-of-hand. H1B proponents point to exceptional people who came here decades ago as if they represent the current state of the program in the same way that advocates for low-skill/illegal immigration point to very favorable immigrant crime/welfare/education/etc statistics that do, in truth, have them beating native-born Americans on many fronts.
It is all a sham. The world that created those statistics, people, and businesses no longer exists. Brilliant but desperate Vietnamese fathers who fled communism have nothing in common with young men from Honduras, and the crime rates/economic acccomplishments/integration of the former should not be used to justify mass migration of the latter.
Nor should the accomplishments of people who managed to get an H1B visa in the 90s (when the program was capped to just 65,000 visas) be used to justify staffing agencies and tech companies using the program to replace American jobs for less money. The obvious abuse going on is politically suicidal and something that even the most ardent supporters of the visa should want to crack down on, no immigration program can possibly survive the obvious and widely known reality of what is going on. I am a longtime outspoken advocate for stealing the best people from other countries to make our own better, runaway abuse of existing programs robs the government of the worker trust required to do so.
Lots of people in the tech space know this. Even the dumb people are smart enough to see it. Nobody actually believes these are all incredible people with unique talents performing jobs no American can. Everyone knows the guy in Cubicle Bay 7 doing mediocre but functional web design for half the salary of his American peers is no savant and doesn't meet the statutory requirements for his H-1B visa.
Unfortunately, most people with power or profile are terrified that any public statement or acknowledgement will get them attacked by the right (You guys have been screwing over American workers for years with visa abuse, you damn hypocrite!) or the left (You are racist, sexist, misogynist, and sucking up to this fascist administration!). Or, more likely, both. I know too many tech execs in particular who feel trapped, like the only winning move is to stay silent.
JD is blowing the whole thing wide open by putting facts and stats front and center that nobody wants to engage with. Critics will talk about anything and everything else but these damning facts and this obvious truth, that H1B visas serve neither their original purpose, legal purpose, invented purpose, or the American people.
Vice President JD Vance breaks down the data:
"If you are working as an H-1B visa in the United States of America, you’re earning $20,000 less than an American citizen hired in the same position. If you were brought in by one of these foreign outsourcing firms, you’re making $48,000 less than an American citizen in a similar position. So I’m sure that everybody here understands the game that is being played. You bring in indentured servants from outside the country, you lay off American workers and, if you’re a corporation, you make a ton of money by under cutting the wages of American workers, replacing them with people who frankly shouldn’t be in the United States of America to begin with."

The State Board of Elections’ last-minute changes to voting by mail are leading to thousands more absentee ballots being rejected this election - at a rejection rate twice as high as in 2022. It’s infuriating. North Carolinians, please make a plan to vote this year, in person if possible. And if you’re voting by mail, make sure you seal both envelopes on your ballot. Don’t let them take away your vote.

North Carolina!! If you voted by mail, go to vote.org/ballot-tracker-tool… to track whether your ballot was rejected over minor technical issues. If it was, you can still vote in person!

It’s the next two weeks that are the most dangerous. But you’re right .. if one or both houses flip, he’s gonna have the perfect foil to go for broke after that. They’re not gonna touch him no matter how many impeachments and investigations they run; he already knows that’s a winning hand for him. And the Donorcrats are too stupid to know any better. It’ll be Déjà vu all over again, the last ten years in rerun mode. And NOBODY wants to see that.

BREAKING: Approximately 10 current & former Pentagon/natsec officials have quietly advised officials in 10 states + bipartisan lawmakers on prepping for possible Trump admin interference in the 2026 midterms (troops/ICE at polls, nullifying results over fraud claims).
Things are getting serious.
If they love their country and culture so much, why don’t they just come to India and do this? Why do only these selected 5% of Indians engage in this kind of nonsense and end up generalising the rest of us?
They’re literally celebrating Durga Puja in Times Square. Religion and traditional practices are individual choices, so why are they celebrating in a public space full of people just to show off how proud they are of their religion and traditions?
Now imagine the same thing if the Muslim community celebrated Bakri Eid at Connaught Place or Christians decorated an entire public space for Christmas.

Nah, good try, but what you're describing was true like 25-30 years ago in most pre-IT fields, and remains mostly true in those fields even today.
What happened in US IT is definitely
1) systemic capture of IT hiring by Indian agencies
2) lack of significant American talent supply available AT SCALE, IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THE IT jobs boom (hence the business opportunity first arose) but is no longer the case
3) Over 25-30 years since the Y2K hiring rush, this capture just built upon itself hence Indians hiring only Indians through the pipeline funnel
4) Over time, this buildup becomes a very visible in-your-face cultural problem to be "solved".
The backlash and hate is targeted at IT Indians due to the recent cultural, societal consequences of this capture -
100% Indian apartment occupancy in concentrated areas.
100% Indian kids' occupancy of public school classrooms in those areas.
100% Indian home ownership in many new neighborhood communities.
100% Indian employees in IT occupying several floors of large American companies.
This is NOT NORMAL and NEVER WAS NORMAL anywhere in the US until about 2005 or so.
There has always been some reasonable (maybe 20%) of some professions (especially engineering) that were legal immigrants. That also forced a certain measure of cultural integration and assimilation which is no longer the case. This new crowd of IT Indians is culturally different - arrogant, entitled, demeaning towards their host country and culture, and why wouldn't they be! The scale of this Indian takeover only occurred after about 2005-2010.

The anti Indian hate should be equated with antisemitism, it even more dangerous in some ways because the targeted population is easily identifiable. This is racism in its most vile putrid human form. Call it for what it is. And the leaders stoking this violence are the two top elected officials in the land of the free. When is enough enough.
