The yellow ribbons are a sign of remembrance for the 48 people being held hostage in Gaza.
Having interviewed many of their families, seeing the ribbons and remembering their pain, feels very personal.
This teeny park near where I live (a place my then toddler thought was ‘heaven’ but is more often used by smokers and druggies) occasionally has yellow ribbons.
They don’t last long because in this terribly right-on area where I live remembering hostages is somehow seen as wrong.
Look at how proud this ignorant young woman is as she snips them down as she mutters she’s against ‘genocide’ as if the war wouldn’t be over if the hostages were returned.

Manchester's Iconic Charity Theatre Venues Refuse To De-Platform Jew Haters (examples below)
Over the last year the Jewish community of Greater Manchester have been treated disgracefully by some of the city's most iconic venues (which are owned by charities and/or the local council & their trustees) refusing to cancel the appearances of performers who have engaged in overt anti Jewish racism.
The Stoller Hall:
Bassem Youseff - who said:

➡️ In an interview with controversial YouTuber Patrick Bet-David, Youssef falsely claimed that DNA testing is illegal in Israel and accused the Israeli government of “kidnapping” Yemeni children in 1950 “in order to instil Semitic DNA in their population.”
➡️ "McDonald's are giving free meals to the Israelis. Because nothing will make you feel better after killing a bunch of Palestinian kids than a Happy Meal."
➡️ On Channel 4 said, "I cannot be an antisemite as I am a semite" and went on to say, "accusation of antisemitism are funny now".
➡️ In an interview with podcaster Lex Fridman, Youssef dismissed what he described as reports of “rape” and “decapitated babies.” by Hamas.
➡️ In an interview with Youssef, YouTube host Theo Von claimed that Jewish friends of his say “the media is mostly run by Jewish folks “It is. All of the corporates, all the CEOs,” said Youssef in response.
➡️ On his X account "Enough with the blackmailing and the intimidation. You can’t continue guilt tripping people with the “antisemitism” accusation . Your victimhood card has expired."
Youssef’s pure hatred for Jews, dismissiveness of the crimes by Hamas, and continued use of antisemitic tropes dangerously incite hatred towards Jews everywhere and needs to be exposed and challenged.

These venues, their ultimate owners and charity trustees have exhibited huge cowardice and failed in their duty of care to the Greater Manchester Jewish community. They are responsible for any increase in Jew hatred. No Jewish organisation should use any of these venues again until we see a full apology and acknowledgement of their refusal to do the right thing and cancel the bookings of these performers.

Antisemitic Performers At Iconic Manchester Venues
Over the last 15 months, the Jewish community has endured record levels of hate crime as antisemitism has infected every section of society. Throughout this time, we have been fortunate to count upon the full support of elected representatives and Greater Manchester Police.
However, we have been particularly let down across Greater Manchester by iconic venues with a history of strong support from our community like the Bridgewater Hall, Stoller Hall and Home. They have failed to undertake basic due diligence and hosted individuals with a history of espousing overt anti Jewish racism. When made aware of this issue, they have lacked the courage to do what is right and cancel the bookings. As these venues are run as charities, there is an absolutely heightened obligation to ensure bookings from extremists are not accepted.
We demand that all venues undertake background checks on artists and speakers - and publicly confirm these procedures are now in place - to avoid individuals having a prominent platform to incite hatred against the Greater Manchester Jewish community.

Jew hating speaker to perform TODAY at a Manchester City Council owned venue
At 5pm today at @BridgewaterHall Sheikh Alafasy - who has called Jews "usurpers" and said that the Talmud "allows Jews to rape non Jews girls once they pass the age of 3" along with many other horrific anti Jewish racist statements (see tweet below) - will hold his event.
Despite seeing all the evidence of Alafasy's Jew hatred @ManCityCouncil and the trustee's of the charity Manchester Concert Hall Limited - such as @MarianSudbury @jocheungpiano & @joand7 - who run the Bridgewater Hall on its behalf have so far refused to cancel this event.
Three weeks ago senior Manchester politicians such as @bevcraig stood at the civic reception held by @JewishMCR and pledged to stand side by side with the Manchester Jewish community as it continues to face the biggest rise in anti Jewish racism EVER. If this event is allowed to proceed it will mean THOSE WORDS WERE LIES and the council will have let down the Manchester Jewish community by allowing a confirmed Jew hater to perform in the heart of our city.
Will Manchester Council and its leaders have the courage to act, no matter what the financial implications are, in order to protect its Jewish community?! If they do not organisations like Yom Hashoah - who hold a Holocaust commemoration event at the Bridgewater Hall every year - should refuse to use the venue.
It is also clear Manchester Concert Hall Limited is in breach of @ChtyCommission rules and will be reported as such if the event proceeds.

On Sunday Jan 5th Jew hater Sheikh Mishary Alafasy will be appearing at @BridgewaterHall
How can the Bridgewater Hall - which also hosts the annual Manchester Yom Hashoah Holocaust Memorial ceremony - allow its premises to be used by Alafasy who is clearly an antisemite and spreads anti Jewish racism.
The Bridgewater Hall should cancel the booking IMMEDIATLY. If it does not and is still happy to make money from hosting an antisemite the Manchester Jewish community to should not give it any business.
In August 2020, Alafasy posted on his personal Twitter account about how a number of Muslim-majority countries had signed peace agreements with Israel, including Egypt, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but rather than celebrating the peace deals, Alafasy made his views known, writing in Arabic: “There is no benefit in normalization with the treachery/betrayal of the Jews. No matter what [countries] signed agreements with them.”
In April 2011, Alafasy wrote in Arabic on Twitter that “[The] characteristics of the Jews: their eagerness to wage wars and [spreading] corruption in the land.”
In one Arabic-language Twitter post from July 2014, during a war between Israel and Hamas, the Gaza Strip-based Islamist terrorist group, Alafasy beseeched God to defeat not Israel, but the Jews.
“O Allah! Revealer of the Book, Disperser of the clouds, Swift at reckoning, Defeater of the Confederates, help/ give victory to our brothers n Gaza, and defeat the Jews with your power, O The All-Strong, O All-Mighty,” Alafasy’s Tweet read.
In the same Twitter post, Alafasy included a link to an Arabic-language YouTube link which included him reciting religious supplications, including the words “O Allah…show us the wonders of Your might applied on them, the killers of the messengers and prophets…tear them apart, O Allah!…slay them one by one and spare not one of them.”

All Lebanon and the UN had to do to prevent what's happening now is implement UN Security Council resolution 1701, pushing Hezbollah away from northern Israel and preventing it from attacking Israelis.
They didn't.
For 18 years, Lebanon and the UN have enabled Hezbollah to entrench itself in southern Lebanon and use it as a launch pad for attacks against northern Israel, which have only intensified since October 8, killing scores of Israelis and forcing 100,000 to flee their homes.
Lebanon has done nothing to stop it. The UN has done nothing to stop it.
So now Israel is doing something to stop it.

91-year-old Moshe Ridler was murdered by Hamas on Oct 7.
Moshe survived the Holocaust at just 11 years old, and moved to Israel in 1951, where he became an Israel Police detective and when he retired, he worked with the Jewish Agency, where he managed two absorption centres that helped Ethiopians immigrate in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He adored his 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his victory over the Nazis who had tried to erase him and his family.
Moshe Hersh Ridler survived the Nazi Holocaust in Europe, but was a victim of the Holocaust of Oct. 7, 2023.
May his memory forever be a blessing.

This poem is a bit of a litmus test for whichever magazine I send it to.

To my many wellwishers. I may well end up burning in hell for all eternity but I don’t think opening a Twitter account and typing angrily on your keyboard enables you to actuate that fate. And if you’re honest with yourself you’re probably not in fact going to “come round my house” and “do a 7th October” on me, but if you do pluck up the courage, good luck with that. Although I’m grateful for all the suggestions I don’t yet feel ready to “do myself in”. Nor do I feel obligated to “shut up” or “delete my account” on the basis solely of your advice. Maybe try and find more effective ways of intimidating me?
