In late September 2026, the IRGC issued a lengthy (roughly 25-26 page) open letter to the American people ahead of the midterms. It urged voters to “change the makeup of the government,” “remove from power the evil, deceitful, and violent politicians who are responsible for America’s current state,” “take back control,” reject Trump’s policies, end US support for Israel, and stop the ongoing conflict. It criticized Trump personally and framed current US leadership as tyrannical while offering “peaceful coexistence” if policy changed.
Multiple outlets (including Reuters, the New York Post, and conservative media) reported this as an effort to sway midterm voters against Trump and Republicans. While the letter does not always use the words “vote Democrat,” the intent is unambiguous given the context of Republican control and Trump’s hardline approach toward Iran. White House officials and others described it as the IRGC effectively telling Americans to “vote Democrat.”
