2025 Gaming Year In Review!
This year I *only* played 11 games (separating Suikoden and Lunar games), so it was a very light year, thanks to various real world obligations getting in the way.
This thread is a mini review of what I thought about each one.
And nothing of value is lost.
Today, after 31 years, we are saddened to announce that Salon is ceasing publication. It has been an extraordinary privilege. salon.com/2026/11/05/goodbye…

🚨 GAMERS: YOU BOUGHT THE CONSOLE. SONY THINKS IT STILL OWNS IT.
Let's get something straight. When I spend my hard-earned money on hardware, it belongs to ME. Not Sony. Not shareholders. ME.
What I choose to do with that hardware is my business.
Homebrew? Absolutely. Emulation? Yup, 100%. Jailbreaking a console I legally purchased? My decision, and I'll accept the risks.
Now, before you start screaming piracy, learn the damn difference.
Homebrew and emulation are not inherently piracy. Creating software, modifying hardware, and preserving gaming history are not the same as illegally distributing copyrighted games.
Your property, your business.
I don't condone piracy. Never have. Copyright laws still apply. Owning a console doesn't give you permission to steal software.
For the record, Sony owes gamers more transparency about backwards compatibility. We've seen what technically skilled communities can accomplish. How much of Sony's limitations are technical, and how much comes down to money?
Now let's talk about Sony's little kingdom.
Sony spent years tightening its grip on PlayStation. Digital storefront restrictions, licensing agreements, subscription requirements, antitrust litigation, and an ecosystem designed to keep gamers spending money inside Sony's walls.
Fu#k that!
You bought the hardware. Sony wants to dictate what software you run, where you buy your games, and what you're allowed to do with them.
Apparently, owning a PlayStation now comes with a corporate babysitter.
Here's something gamers need to understand.
Jailbreaking your PlayStation can violate Sony's terms of service. Connecting a modified console to PSN puts your account and hardware at risk of suspension or a permanent ban.
That's a choice you'll need to make.
Your property, your business!
That doesn't automatically mean Sony confiscates every digital game you've purchased. Account restrictions and access to licensed content depend on the circumstances. The risk is real enough without inventing consequences.
Meanwhile, homebrew developers and emulation communities continue doing something corpos frequently neglect: preserving gaming history.
Games disappear from storefronts. Older hardware fails. Online services shut down. Entire libraries risk becoming inaccessible.
Yet the people working to preserve that history are sometimes treated like the enemy.
Here's a thought, Sony.
Instead of treating every technically curious gamer like a criminal, perhaps recognize that gamers who purchased your hardware have legitimate interests beyond your quarterly earnings.
I left PlayStation. I've been on Steam ever since. Digital gaming was never my problem. Corporate manipulation, stifled competition, and treating paying customers like tenants certainly are.
I'm not supporting piracy. I'm advocating ownership, consumer choice, and preservation.
You sold us the console, Sony. You didn't sell us a lifetime subscription to your authority.

As someone who grew up being a loner and keeping distance from people, this episode came at a time in my life when I needed to hear it... It encouraged me to be a lot more open to people.
"You were always welcome!"

Patrick Stewart in the final scene on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
It’s extremely simple, but reveals so much of his character if you watched. Somehow his sense of duty and sensitivity, along with the admiration of his crew shines through.
RIP Captain.

Patrick Stewart was once filmed dancing and singing on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D in 1991 as a birthday surprise for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Though never intended for public release, a copy of the clip eventually surfaced as a bonus feature on a DVD.
Rest in peace 🙏

Gotta love how socialism and communism are always so wildly popular in real life that the only way they can win is by stealing elections.
And the gaslighting the left always does to claim the right is a threat is on full display in Brazil.
Same shit, new day.
WTF is happening in Brazil? After Lula stole the election... AGAIN, Bolsonaro is fleeing to the United States.
The Lula regime tried to confiscate his passport, detain him, and possibly put him in prison. Their stock market also dropped 15% following the socialist regime's continued rule.
Also, there was an extremely high chance that Bolsonaro was going to win, but an unexpected extended election and Lula friendly courts, the socialists basically cheated.
Another day, another case of @Sony @PlayStation failing to serve their customers.
Sony has suffered a massive data breach affecting around 2.58 million So-net and plala customers.
Sony Network Communications says hackers accessed its member database on October 19. Leaked information includes:
• Names
• User IDs
• Email addresses
• Other customer information
• 16 bank account records, including account numbers and bank names
The company says it has not found any leaked credit card numbers or expiration dates, and it does not store customers’ bank PINs.
Sony says the affected servers have been shut down and the unauthorized connections blocked, while internet services continue to operate.
WTF is wrong with these clowns?!
They'll drop physical disc media in favor of books? 🤷♂️🤣
400 pages of gaming history.
