Yasir Qadhi has been attacked from various sides, but it is worth remembering that he has spoken out clearly (with more credibility than most) against Jihadi-Salafism - & was courageous enough to face threats for this. From his recent book, "Understanding Salafism" 👇

Did Muhammad really send some of his followers to Christian Ethiopia? Did the Christians there weep when they heard the Qur'an recited? My (Open-Access) article on the historical likelihood of the "first hijra": tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
Jordan is a country, unlike Lebanon, w/a strong central government (not perfect) - stable institutions (police, court system, even zoning/regulations). Might be a place where minorities could flourish. But it also has a history of Salafi-jihadism: Azzam, Zarqawi, Maqdisi etc.
7 dead, 10 injured in attack on Orthodox funeral in Jordan (+VIDEO)

Gunmen opened fire on mourners inside a church during a funeral in central Jordan, killing at least seven people and wounding ten more.
No doubt the vast majority of Jordanians want the small Christian community there (with roots in the apostolic generation) to remain, but who can blame those Christians, already a tiny minority, who choose to leave?

Pretty wild that France puts the Revolutionary motto Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité on its euros & the guys still sing La Marseillaise before soccer games. The Revolution was responsible for a genocide in La Vendée, they chained hundreds at a time in Lyon and fired grapeshot at them from cannons, they passed laws that defendants would have no attorney, prosecutors needed no evidence and the only sentence was death (it’s not only the guillotine, friends). Waiting for folks to say: "well it started out ok," or "but the principles are wonderful & poetic"...
This may be the Notre Dame of 25 years ago, but times have changed.
.@NewmanSociety has released its 2026–27 #NewmanGuide, with 71 more recommendations than last year.
But not #NotreDame.
Notre Dame can be found in the Guide's FAQ, with an explanation why it has never been recommended:
"At the time there were faithful professors and students on campus (and there still are). But there were also clear examples of opposition to the faith from many on campus. In order to resolve our dilemma, we spoke with the late Dr. Charles Rice, a faithful Catholic and long-time law professor at Notre Dame. He helped us find the bottom line. He said that at Notre Dame, 'a kid who is struggling with his faith will sink like a stone.'"
There are, of course, remarkable exceptions -- like @alexathallow, whose own struggle with faith eventually led to the creation of @HallowApp. But that doesn't diminish Charlie's warning.
Notre Dame can be an extraordinary place for students who are sure-footed in their Catholic faith. For those looking for a thoroughly Catholic academic experience, the #NewmanGuide is a tremendous resource.
