Tonight, in memory of Chiba-sensei, I'm rereading the José Mendoza world title match from “Ashita no Joe,” the manga that defined my youth, and rewatching Episodes 44–47 of “Ashita no Joe 2.”🥊
I didn't become familiar with Ashita no Joe until I learned that Tetsuya Chiba was one of @urasawa_naoki 's inspirations though the show ManBen. It breaks my heart to know that he's no longer with us, but he lived a long life and left an incredible legacy.

Good morning my dear and beloved darklings. Rise, shine and burn your flame bright until only pure white ash remains.
Rest in peace Tetsuya Chiba manga artist of Tomorrow's Joe who brought the troubled and glorious journey of Joe to life and inspired a love of boxing in me.

Go Nagai (Devilman, Mazinger, Cutie Honey) comments on the passing of Tetsuya Chiba (Ashita no Joe) who was his friend and a senior figure he looked up to as a fellow manga artist. RIP 😔
