Share your views on the future of our short breaks service!
This is a 12-week consultation on the future of our short breaks and emergency respite services.
The service provides support for working-age adults with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities, and their families and carers. It is currently based at Swallow Lodge, in North Hykeham, and Cedar House, in Spalding, and delivered by provider Making Space.
We are proposing to extend the current contracts until 31 July 2027, subject to approval by the council’s Executive, to allow time for meaningful consultation with those using the service, and other types of overnight respite care, and the wider public.
The consultation includes five options for consideration.
We will be contacting those who use short breaks directly to arrange individual meetings to discuss the options.

It’s important to support the bus service which we have. The @StagecoachEMid Spalding to King’s Lynn is a frequent service, however some improvements to driver customer service would help. The 19.11 Holbeach to Spalding last night was an extremely poor service from the driver.

Towns such as Spalding need a variety of Shops and businesses. Empty shops are unattractive, however we need more quality and variety. Further betting shops and gambling establishments do not fall into that category. @Spalding2day @SpaldingVoice

🚦 Traffic pattern research is now underway in Spalding and Holbeach
We’ve started a 14-day study across Spalding, Holbeach and surrounding villages to monitor traffic flow and journey times.
📍 Monitoring equipment has been set up at over 90 locations
📆 In place from Thursday 8 May to Wednesday 21 May
The data will help us build a new traffic model and shape the future Spalding Transport Strategy, aimed at reducing congestion and improving journey times.

At the weekend I was at a car boot sale. Very friendly atmosphere, with plenty of bargains for customer and money being made for traders. This would not be the same if we went 100% cashless. We still need that choice and many High Streets now have no bank.
SHDC Planning committee last night refused the Solar application at Holbeach St Matthew. There is a place for solar. That is on our rooftops, brownfield sites and commercial buildings, however not on the best food producing land in the country.

Telephone customer service operators need to try harder to understand the needs of their customer. Storm damage over the weekend is stressful. Elderly people need empathy, saying no problems and complicated questions is unhelpful.
