MOSQUE APPLICATION – ROMFORD ROUND 2 Thanks to your help, I'm fighting this planning application to create a "mosque and cultural centre" at the former Page Calnan building in Romford (222-226 South Street). I want to have another go at it, because the decision was due in March and it's still undecided. I want the Council to know that time passing doesn't mean opposition has died down. This is a lovely old Victorian three-storey commercial and residential terraced building. The current mosque typically opens at 6am-8pm (10pm during summer) and accommodates 30-40 attendees a day. These numbers might increase significantly at this proposed, extended property. This site is in an established residential neighbourhood, with no dedicated on-site parking. Council offices deserted. Demonstrators smash the windows and go in. It's getting dangerous so she goes home and disturbs someone trying to break into her flat. Her cupboards are empty anyway. She’s been waiting for her UC after her holiday cleaned her out. Weekend – rival gangs carve up the estate. 24 hours without food - her children are crying, and she’s panicking. 48 hours and she’s wondering if she can knock her neighbour’s door down. She can’t think what she’ll do after 72 hours. The druggie 3 doors down keeps banging on her door for food she doesn’t have, so she barricades it as best she can. Monday - binmen don’t come. 5 days later - stairwell fills with rubbish. 2 days later - lift stops working – the gang say it was a neighbouring gang. She’s too old to peddle her hips, blowjobs have fallen to £3 a go on the estate, and she’s got 5 children. Food = power, so gang loots foodbank. Foodbank closes. What does she do?
