A small irritation on a flight shows what’s (generally) amazing about brands …
So today, I flew back from Italy with Tui and was very glad to sit down and see the sign below.
Excellent I thought, I can get a bit of work done
I used the QR code, paid my £4.99 and then discovered it wasn’t WiFi at all but a walled Garden of Tui content
It’s blatant misrepresentation. I felt liked I’d been scammed. A product that isn’t WiFi is labelled as WiFi
But after a couple of minutes of outsized irritation it struck me how rare, out and out deceit is from brands
I don’t believe it’s because big brand marketers are particularly honest - more that they spent millions of pounds on a brand and they have a self interest to maintain that investment
Marketers spend an awful lot of time talking about higher purpose but I wonder if one of the genuinely biggest benefits of brands is that it makes small trivial purchases (where enforcing law is not worth The hassle) much more likely to go smoothly….
Shame Tui hasn’t thought this one through though!!!!
This bad boy appeared on our shed in E15 - not your average bird for the area.
I have it on good authority that its name is Dave, we’re just wondering:
- baby kestrel
-Sparrowhawk (Eurasian)
- Baby Peregrine Falcon
- none of the above.
Is s/he lost? Wisdom please!
Hey @MrTimDunn - firstly Happy 2026! Secondly - what are these things on the Lizzy Line? You know all things underground related so hope you can help!
Apparently parking in the black cab rank in Stratford is the new black - regardless of the colour of your car. #Stratford @YPLAC
Hello @LNER - train on time - good, but having to stand in the corridor as the stink of McDonalds in the carriage is making me sick. Not your fault but is there a way to have a McDonalds free carriage - bit like the quiet carriage?
Outside #Stratford station. Traffic backed up but this person thought blocking a crossing was fine. @YPLAC - not sure this qualifies but…

Britain’s grooming gangs scandal is attracting attention. It’s happened before, but now it seems different.
I’ve dedicated most of my career in journalism to covering it. Because it’s the most appalling atrocity in modern British history.
In this thread, I’ll tell you what I know about the crisis, what I’ve uncovered, and what is yet to be revealed…
Good morning @IKEAUK - do you encourage your drivers to behave aggressively when driving your vans? This idiot driving WN73 FUG was clearly in a hurry and driving dangerously. Was it an emergency/life-saving flatpack delivery?
This immediately made me think of @MrTimDunn
I started Christmas Day with a volunteer shift in the dark hours. Merry Christmas to fellow volunteers and staff at The Mix and Shout.

Classic @YPLAC - this Audi driver obviously felt entitled to park across the double yellows and block the narrow street.
Yesterday a bloke in a pub bought my other half a drink - someone had picked up his bill at a card only place. He was #PayingItForward and the other 1/2 just did the same. We need more #HumanKindness in our lives. I’m sure this used to be more of a thing.
The @British_Airways saga continues. Completed a complaint form yesterday. Took almost an hour. Submitted, no ‘something’s gone wrong’ message. Apparently it just didn’t go through. Need an email as life’s too short to do that again. #CustomerSupport #Help
So @British_Airways cancelled tomorrow’s flight - I get that this is necessary in this storm, but already at LHR and in T5 (BA terminal) there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK - really??? Get kicked off phone as ‘too busy’ and sent a text instead which is useless. Shame on you.
On @TfL #ElizabethLine from #Heathrow after flight cancelled. Sense of entitlement of some is high - their bags deserve a seat not people. Here 2 have 4 seats for themselves and bags and are blocking the aisle. Design fault of no luggage spaces, but no need for such selfishness.

This is Woman Life Freedom 💚🤍❤️
I cannot overstate how dangerous and brave this young girl’s act of protest was today.
Her whereabouts are currently unknown.
May she, and the great people of Iran, be free of the Islamic Republic soon.
I loved working on the EDGE project across South Asia when I was based in Bangladesh. Seeing the difference impact on girls was a career highlight. #DayOfTheGirl #GirlsEducation
