The Chao Phraya Dam has raised its discharge to 2,300 cubic metres per second as northern runoff approaches, with water expected to reach Ayutthaya on Saturday.
Authorities are warning people living along the Chao Phraya River and in low-lying areas of Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi to move belongings to higher ground and prepare to evacuate if ordered.
Officials said flows converging in Ayutthaya should remain below 3,000 cubic metres per second, while Bangkok water levels are expected to stay about 40 centimetres below flood barriers.
Residents in Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and low-lying parts of Chachoengsao have also been told to closely monitor the situation.
