I'm going to make a thread stating a few reasons why I'm Orthodox because I think the things that most root me in the faith are often understated.

Fr. Peter has done the work that none of his critics have done. He is a convert, but went to Athos to become a monk, then left the monastery with the blessing and discernment of the abbot to attend seminary in Thessaloniki and pursue the married priesthood. He was in Greece for 2 decades and regularly visited Mount Athos after leaving the monastery to meet and receive instructions from the holiest people he could find. On the Internet, he is boldly criticized by some people who have never made any such efforts, who have never been to Athos, never tried to learn Greek, never met a holy person, and some of these people haven’t even been received into the Church. In general, and apart from Fr. Peter, it is amazing to me how many young and inexperienced people feel so free to judge and criticize people who have so much more wisdom and experience than they.

Hearing Father Peter speak in Greek is so cool. I knew he was brilliant.

“Why is the truth, it would seem, revealed to some and not to others? Is there a special organ for receiving revelation from God? Yes, though usually we close it and do not let it open up: God’s revelation is given to something called a loving heart.”

NEW BLOG POST - Neo-Barlaamism and Academic Theology
“Theology without experience,” said Saint Paisios the Athonite, “is like a blind mole-rat trying to describe the sun.” One can write about Palamas without living Palamas. One can write about theosis without pursuing purification. One can analyze Hesychasm without ever understanding why the Fathers insisted upon purification of the nous. Theology, that is, “speaking of God”, is not... (1/2)

"When you, dearest friend, hear it said that the grace of the Spirit is also 'theurgic,' do not be especially concerned, nor inquire after how it could or could not be this or that, since, according to those who have spoken about it, without it you will not belong to God; rather, hold fast to those works by which you may obtain it, for then you will know it (insofar as this is possible.)
Indeed, according to Basil the Great, he who learns the energies of the Spirit by experience, who seeks knowledge prior to works by trusting in those who have had experience, only receives a certain impression of the truth. But, when he thinks about things on his own terms, thus losing even the impression, he puffs himself up greatly as though he had discovered it, and he blusters at length against those with experience (as though they were in error.)
So then, do not be especially concerned, but follow those who have experience, especially their deeds..."

‘I will also tell you what happened once to Father Ephraim Katanakiotis. In the first years that we met him, he struggled in prayer with a lot of zeal. One night he lay down on the bed to rest a little before getting up for the vigil.
The demons had a lot of malicious envy against him. Father Ephraim’s prayer was fire. A whole legion came outside his cell and began screaming. The monk awoke. He was frightened. He listened and realized they were demons. With one voice they were screaming, “War! War!”
They thought he would be terrified like you, but what did the monk do? He got up from the bed as quick as a flash of lightning. He grabbed the 300-knot comboskini and answered loudly with courage, “Yes! Yes! War!” And the warfare began. “Kyrie Iesou Christe, eleison me! Kyrie Iesou Christe, eleison me!”
He had such a vigil that he remembered it for years. He later also thanked the demons for waking him.’
