It amazes me to hear the first bit of the first chapter of Darkspire Conspiracy. It is well read, and I like the song chosen. It is properly medieval, or so it seems to me which is extremely important as my goal was to create not modern-styled fantasy stories but a kind of continuation to old Fantasy and also Medieval Epics. @GetLexApp did great work with this. Gertrude's preparations for the birthday party of her daughter is a part of the story I really enjoyed writing about 3 years ago. It gives a great deal of insight into the local town, the family that Sigrun the lead was separated from for 11 years. The music selected, the Scandinavian narrator give a great feel, exactly what I had in mind when I wrote this story. audible.com/pd/B0HNTL7MWY?so…

It is no great secret that the articles or stories rather that got me my first big break on Substack was that of my Darkspire Conspiracy novel. As a story it isn’t the most outlandish Fantasy epic ever written, however it is the one that is the most consistent with the old Volsungrs Saga. The novel itself isn’t terribly complicated in terms of its premise; Viking fantasy fiction that is supposed to be a sequel to the story of Sigurdr. The only thing is that the story here is about the maiden Sigrun. A character named after a Nordic Valkyrie and who is at the centre of the chaos that follows the death of her foster-father. The inspiration and intention of this story was always derived as said from the legend of the Volsungrs who as everyone knows are descended from Odinn. The summary is as follows; “The village of Heiðrrán was tiny, isolated and hardly ever drew attention from the outside world. But there was something special about it, for it had ten years ago had the honour of having the daughter of the finest fisher-woman in the village sent off to foster with the local Jarl. That was twelve years ago, and now that daughter, Sigrún has returned. Bringing with her wealthy gifts from the Jarl, with the celebration welcoming her home ruined by an unexpected, sepulchral figure and the unexpected murder of the Jarl Helgi (her foster-father). Now Sigrún and her family and friends, must embark on a whirlwind quest, of passion, vengeance and valour all to save the kingdom of Norvech and to defy the most wicked figure in the history of the kingdom, who lies within the mysterious and previously thought lost Darkspire.” These words are from the book’s summary and took me some time to figure out. The book’s yet to yield all that much attention on Substack, but as the site is in decline it should come as no surprise. That said the book has yielded enough attention for @GetLexApp to show interest and for it to have thus been made into an audio-book on audible. The audio-book is the first I’ve produced with Lex, and was really well produced. It was fun listening to it, and even funner realising that Lex had done everything possible to capture the Scandinavian feel and Dark Fantasy elements of the tale. What he also strove for was to capture the epic feel of the novel. It is with some wonder that I must express heartfelt grattitude to him and his staff. They worked hard on the book, and were very eager to adapt it. On my end the fact that another book was adapted is a great honour and allowed me to ponder Darkspire Conspiracy’s role in my ‘canon’ and the importance of the book in my saga, and determine that I need to push forward with other projects that are nearly finished that I might finish Darkspire’s second volume, which I’m tentatively dubbing the Silverspire Dream. But to get an idea of what I have in mind for that book, you must first explore the first volume, and one of the best ways to do so is through the Audiobook that’s available on Audible so do please check out the link below and BUY it! It helps both Lex and myself. audible.com/pd/B0HNTL7MWY?so…

Listening to audiobooks is better than not reading at all. A book in your ears beats a book in your closet.

Anyone needing a story to listen to while doing other stuff can now check out my audiobook on Spotify. I wrote this under a penname and never intended to make an audio version, but @GetLexApp's AI audio tool makes the process easy for indie authors. open.spotify.com/show/1fBmb2…

Speaking of modernity being sick, my COVID satire novel about a psychopathic serial killer in a high fantasy world is now available as a full scored audiobook, currently on the Lex App. When society is sick, real heroes need to be sicker. Listen to it on Lex!
Replying to @LandsknechtPike
Totally, showing everything as dark and depressing reveals more about modernity than anything medieval. Medieval art too was also colorful and largely happy. Modernity is sick.

I just finished listening to this book on @GetLexApp It’s filled with the most incredible anecdotes about duels. At one point he says, “The duel descends to domestic murder and to the heights of civil war”. This book takes you to both places and many others in between!

Empire-Builders, I am pleased to announce that the inaugural read of our book club is Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow (2011). The timing is doubly auspicious, seeing as today is World Book Day and 72 days from now is our nation’s 250th birthday. Clocking in at 928 pages and 300,000+ words, this book is on the longer side, so we’ll set aside 3 weeks to complete it (May 14th). I know we all have things going on. I am moving to San Francisco and have an 8-hour drive ahead of me with a car full of books, so the plan is to switch between the audiobook, ebook (which I am reading on Lex), and physical book (once it arrives at my new place). The Empire-Builders book club is free. Anyone can join, read along, and stay tuned for the official review, a list of companion works, guest posts, and more. There is one paid tier ($9.99/month or $95.99/year) that gets you the following: 1. The ability to nominate and vote on the next book 2. Livestreamed discussions 3. 100% off Lex Premium (Lex is a social app for reading, built and maintained by myself) I remain open to your feedback about any of the logistics, including reading pace, paid perks, the cadence for our discussions (weekly? biweekly? chapter-ly?). There will be a lot to figure out, but we’ll take it as it comes. I hope you'll join us.

So recently I've been thinking about launching a book club focused entirely on BIOGRAPHIES. This coincides with a change in direction for @GetLexApp, the app I've been building and it will also mark my return to YouTube. Got a vid planned that will get into all the details. Which biography should we start with? Here are four I've been wanting to read for a while.

Just discovered it seems the full version of this (1155-1238) has not been translated into English.. But now it has been by @GetLexApp. If you want to read or listen to more history (among many other classical works) I'd recommend checking out Lex. I'm currently going through "The Waning of the Middle Ages" on audiobook.. also highly recommended. You can get these translations (as well as many additional features) with a premium subscription and part of your subscription will support @FeignedFlightM! Use code FFM10 for 10% off!
Was reading a bit by @medievaldaniel and he mentions the Annales Marbacenses, a second hand account of Frederick Barbarossa's time on the third crusade. Thought I'd see what it looks like since it's digitized.. (second pic)
