Nigeria Now Requires Licenses for Stablecoin Issuers
The Central Bank of Nigeria has formulated a national-level regulation on virtual assets.
It mandates licenses for stablecoin issuers that use a fiat currency and prohibits algorithmic stablecoins from November 5.
The regulation applies to virtual asset service providers operating in Nigeria. This includes domestic virtual asset service providers, foreign entities that provide services to Nigerians, and protocols that interact with Nigeriaโs banking system.
Africa's 3rd-largest economy is clearly distinguishing between regulated stablecoins and experimental ones.
