We're thrilled to have officially published the final version of this paper, "A Distinct Subpopulation of Extended Amygdala Neurons Drives Food Intake"! Congrats to co-first authors Isaac & Ethan, now in MD & PhD training at @ClevelandClinic and @UCL sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
New preprint! We identified Vipr2-expressing BNST neurons as a distinct population of the oval nucleus that promotes feeding, is activated by food restriction, is non-overlapping with appetite-suppressing PKC delta neurons, and projects to hypothalamus. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Congrats to lab postdoc Dr. Ivy Hoang @ivybhoang on being awarded an F32 NRSA from NIH/@NIDAnews! Ivy's project aims to answer how the population of CCK neurons in the BNST links sleep homeostasis, drug memories, and cocaine seeking.

Excited to share new research from our lab in final published form! We uncovered neuropeptide mechanisms linking alcohol drinking and negative emotional hyperarousal through BNST neuronal excitability.

We're thrilled to share the lab's first preprint- on CRF neurons, hypocretin/orexin signaling, and BNST neurophysiology in excess alcohol drinking and withdrawal-enhanced anxiety behavior! A collaborative effort with @JulieKauer75377 and @AnneVassalli, led by postdoc Dr. Yihe Ma
We’re excited to share our new preprint from the lab! PhD student @armorningstar_ investigated how Early Life Stress shapes sex-specific vulnerability to alcohol behavioral sensitivity, alcohol drinking, and alcohol's effects on social behaviors: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Major congratulations to Giardino Lab postdoc Dr. Brittany Bush who is a 2024 HHMI Hanna Gray Fellow!! Brittany will study sex differences in the neural basis of interactions between stress, sleep, and addiction. hhmi.org/news/hhmi-names-202…
Giardino Lab postdocs Dr. Ma & Dr. Bush will present posters on Saturday PM, Tuesday AM, and Wednesday PM at #SfN24! Stop by to hear about our recent work in #BNST #neuropeptides #reward #sleep #SexDifferences

The Giardino Lab welcomes new postdoc Dr. Ivy Hoang @ivybhoang to our group. Ivy's PhD work focused on hypothalamic-midbrain circuitry in learning and methamphetamine's effects on decision-making. Welcome to Stanford, Ivy!
happy Notice of Award Day to lab PhD student @armorningstar_ for her F31 NRSA!
Congrats to lab undergrad Liv L. on a successful NeURO summer project poster presentation! With excellent mentorship from @stanfordneurds PhD student @armorningstar_ . We're excited to see Liv's senior Honors thesis in Biology come to fruition in the months ahead. @StanfordBrain
